1911's Vs. Other .45's

I've shot CZ's, Glocks, Sigs, HKs, XD's, Rugers and many others. I, personally, can not hold a group on any of them that will compare to the tight groups that I can shoot with a 1911. The feeling I get shooting a 1911 is worth not owning another style of auto handgun for me. They are just nice!

WOW!!! I didn't think that this forum would get this many hit in just one day. Thank you guys, but keep it coming. I have taken into consideration everything you all have said and it looks like i am going to go down to the indoor range soon and try out a 1911 and see how it shoots.

By the way I work at Sig Sauer so if you have any questions just email me and ask. The GSR 1911 series here are really comfortable (well most are) and the slide works wonders, and the trigger... SWEET and crisp like you said. Now all I need to know is how it feels when it goes BANG!!! and see how accurate I am with it.

Oh BTW please don't use the word HATE in your posts PLEASE!!! it is against policy and I would H... Really dislike having my thread deleted and not being able to read all your wonderful advice and insight to the 1911 series and other .45cal pistol systems.

Can anyone say anthing bad about them like jamming, maintanence problems, or even just small stuff that gets frustrating??? Im not trying to get you guys/gals to discredit the 1911. I just want to see the big picture. Thank you!

It's a proven design if you build it how John Browning designed it.

I like how it fits in my hand, the crisp trigger, slim enough to carry concealed, accuracy, the safety system, and the steel frame does not flex when the gun goes bang. The internals of the gun are very simple and anybody with mechanical aptitude could replace most any part in about 20 minutes.

Still Happy

I got my 1911 about 1 month ago. Took it to the range 4 times so far. Put 600 rounds through so far. Amreican Federal, WWB, Mag-Tech, Blazer Brass. Nice Trigger. No failures. No regrets.
My first gun.
Slimmer design and more concealable than a Sig. Feels better in my hands too.
Don't underestimate the concealability of a 1911 versus XD's, Glocks, Sigs.
When watching movies, now, they always stand out to me.

One more thing...

If you are so inclined, you could always bling yours out to your own liking. Your own style, etc. I would get the least blinged out one that you like and then customize it your own way.

Some may argue that it is more $ to go the long route with customization. But at least your potential life-saver (soul mate) will reflect your own values.

I'd recommend you read this thread - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=336914 - just ignore the pi$$ing contest a few of the participants got into. Read everything 1911Tuner says and digest it. Then do an advanced search for keyword 1911 and user name 1911Tuner. Repeat for user names Old Fuff, Xavier Breath, and Bullfrog Ken.

I've only had my Springfield 1911 for a few weeks, but the reason I got it is because it is legendary. I decided awhile back that from now on, I was only buying guns that are either top quality or collectables. No more economy pieces that I would tire of after a few months then sell. I did, however, buy a Glock 17, but that is more of my carry piece of reliability. The 1911 is just kewl as all get out. It shoots very accurately, and fits the hand like it was made for it(which of course it was:evil:) I'll be handing mine down to one of my kids some day, which one is going to be the problem.

Have you tried the CZ-97B? Same more advanced (than the Colt 1911A1) design as the CZ-75 - better link system, slide moves along the inside not the outside- and it still has a bushing but it's a simple screw-in type. Can be fired SA or first-shot DA if you want.

Well, it's a big gun, but so is a full-size 1911A1. So is the fat .45 ACP round.

Google it.

Gracias Mi Amigos this is wonderful and thank you ugaarguy for the link I will check it out as much a I can.

MODS AND ADMINS

It's okay by me the OP to go ahead and lock this thread... It's been more than a month and not a single thing has been posted here other than this request... Thank you!!!

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Why I like the 1911:

The grip is nice and comfortable (at the cost of a rather limited magazine capacity).

The trigger is nice and crisp.

That's all!

If Glock made a single-stack .45ACP, with a full-length handle, alot of 1911 lovers would "file for divorce" from their 1911's.

Oh, I have other .45's and they perform well:

But the 1911 is the "Classic" and for very good reasons all mentioned above, but above all it is consistent accuracy:

If your hands fit it the CZ97 is one of the finest 45 ACP ever made IMHO.

They are amazing. They are too big for me so I can only look at them. When I try to shoot with one lets just say my groups are not what they should be but its all about my girl hands not the gun.

The crazy thing about the CZ97 is that if you look around you can find them in gloss blue for less than $500 :what:

Especially when you consider it will go toe to toe with guns double the price. I tried real hard to convince myself my hands were big enough but I have to stick with the 1911

and there's nothing wrong with that my friend. We rather have you shooting at your top performance than shot at the BG in SD and accidentally hurt an innocent bystander.

45s

I have 2 .45 caliber pistols. First it was the CZ97B and that is a fine shooting and accurate gun. The big grip fits my hand perfectly and I can shoot it well.

I always lusted after a 1911 and finally bought one, not an expensive one but I like it with one small exception. The back strap is straight and I know it would be better with a little hump in it. I guess I can probably replace that part. Am I right?

I am also an HK USP45 owner. And I have no regrets about my purchase. I have put alot of rounds through it and it has been nothing less than 100% reliable. It is my "go to" handgun. I can hit what I need to with it, with confidence.

My next pistol purchase however will be some sort of 1911. Part of the reason behind that is the almost limitless customization/modification market for the 1911. It is almost 100 year old pistol design, and you could take 100 year old parts and use them to repair a newly manufactured gun. And 100 years from now there will still be replacement parts for the 1911 series of pistols. That I do not think I will be able to say about the USP. I want the 1911 to be a tool that can be passed down for many generations, and able to be kept working.

Each one seems to serve a little different niche in my world.........
