.22 conversion kits in stock anywhere?

My LGS's not surprisingly are out of stock on CMMG AR .22 converstion kits.

Only one or two of them stocked them before the rush, and now don't know when they'll be restocked.

Anyone know of a source?

Looking to buy in the next few days to have my AR 22'd for my kids first range visit.

My advice: don't bother with the conversion kit. Just get the CMMG dedicated .22LR Upper. You will be much happier in the long run. Having the proper diameter barrel and correct rifling twist make a HUGE difference, and you don't have to worry about dirtying up your 5.56mm upper's gas tube.

Prior to the panic, they could be found for under $400 (mine was $369 in July, 2012). They are much tougher to find in stock these days, and cost more, but they are still out there.

PSA has the pricier Revolution modular version with a stainless bolt in stock right now, but if you hunt around, you may be able to find the standard version, which is just as good:

found some ciener kits on Cheaper than dirt. Haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet. (sorry for the pun, haha)

Thanks for the heads up on the PSA upper. My 5.56 upper is a PSA unit, and it is a tack-driver. Very good quality.

Not sure I want to invest $500.00+ in .22 though...

The Revolution upper I linked was not a PSA upper, but a CMMG upper being sold by PSA. MidwayUSA now has the standard CMMG Sierra uppers (which are just as good as the CMMG Revolution uppers but cost much less) in stock now.

They are about $100 more than they were a year ago, but are still worth it if you are looking for a true AR-15 in .22.

I have the Ciener conversion kit for my AR. It was cheap but then again so was .22 ammo when I got it. It is adequate for my needs and feeds pretty much everything I have fed it. I looked at the dedicated uppers but decided I didn't want to spend that much on 1/2 a gun. I have no doubt they are more accurate but for punching paper targets at 25 yards the conversion works just fine and takes all of 30 seconds to switch.

I have used the non stainless version in my ar quite a bit and it shoots fine for rabbits in the yard. It is not as accurate as my 10/22. I don't use plain lead .22 shells in it as the kit tends to get locked into the chamber whenever I use them. Whether it is from lead fouling or just that the ammo is dirtier, I don't know. I haven't had any problems as long as I use copper plated ammo. I switch it back and forth quite frequently with no problems.

Same here, jrdolall. My uses are specifically to introduce my kids to shooting and to get them comfortable with my AR15. I think the ciener kits will be what i go with, ultimately.
