Does anyone know a source for 22shot shells. I’m down to my last round and I have been searching for months with zero luck. If 22’s aren’t available anymore, I’m more than willing to try a different caliber, or building my own if you have a suggestion.

I build my own in 45acp and 38 all the time. Kinda fun tinkering with the 45.
I have plenty of 45 cases and fineshot, and could.easily use a bunch for shot shells. I have never tried it. Do you have an internet site that shows the process, or is it something you developed yourself? Sounds like funny

Just curious, what do you use them for?
Rats, mice, anything getting into my garden, or orchard. Mice traps made from plastic buckets where they drown in the water works fairly well. Once in a while I have to take a chipmunk that gets into the barn/food storage area and won’t leave. An occasional poisonous snake. Just farm pests.

I shot a mouse running across the dining room, with my model 63 and a shot shell. The wife was not happy, nor was the mouse.
My brother aimed at, and shot himself in the foot with a pistol, thinking the 22 shot shell was a "blank".

When I hunt I generally carry a pistol also have round one with with Snake-shot :) Especially in Known snake habitats like the Kaibab !.
Specifically Crotalus scutulatus and Crotalus oreganus helleri . As both are highly venomous having both Hemotoxin as well as neurotoxin . Make NO mistake I Know 1 St. hand ,as it killed a Good friend of mine . Dave was a healthy athlete #44 years old life flighted Medical attention en-route died within 38 minutes from being Bit in his toe to when he was #4 minutes out from the hospital. I don't seek them ,I prefer to let em be but sometimes Chit happens and I'd Never see the inside of a chopper .

I load my own shotshells for pests. Works great for shooting big field mice and snakes when im mowing the pasture.
357,41mag and 44spl, bigger the case the more shot you can fit!

I made threads years ago but the photos were uploaded to photo bucket and they are holding them hostage, making the threads less than useful.

I modified an existing die when I first started. Form the case first, then I machined a bolt/cup to push the over shot card down as I crimped the mouth.

Use a gasket punch to make the over shot cards. Clear plastic allows you to see the shot, if you play with different sizes. I prefer #12.

My 45 ACP shot rounds use cut down .410 wads and have much better patterns than the capsules deliver.

Even made some long ones for revolvers.

I got a little smarter on that little one on the left above. It’s a .380 ACP shotshell made from .223 brass. Instead of working over an old die, I machined an insert that could be dropped into a Lee powder die, much, much, easier.

Dump out their insert (right) and drop in mine (left), the washers are just shims because the piece of metal I found at the saw was a bit short.

It’s not hardened but still makes a good looking round. They do become a bit more defined once fired (right).

They also all remain functional as semiautos.

380

I have also used the cases for 9mm, just back the .380 die out a little so the “shoulder” is in the proper location.

That’s beautiful work, but unfortunately I’m not a machinist and don’t have a lathe to modify dies and make inserts. I’m particularly impressed with the 380, but they’re all fine looking rounds.

Jmorris does awesome work. The video with cut brass works well. I cut my 308 brass a little long with a pipe cutter going a little at a time to keep deforming neck low. I then trimmed to size which uniforms the mouth of case up. Used plenty of imperial lube when creating the neck with 41 mag sizing die (20 from lee). I crimped with 38 Lee bullet seater die. I used cardboard wads as good enough. I tried the 410 wads which I struggled with until I belled the case a bit. I didn't find was worth trouble. I topped shot with cardboard wad, crimped a bit and topped with some Lee also.

IIRC I have read, for 45 ACP, where folks use 41mag dies to for the neck and a RN bullet seater for the roll crimp but I haven’t tried that. RCBS also made them https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1011602648 might be able to find one 2nd hand.

These are the fixtures I use along with a fine tooth (port a band with a table) band saw, cut slightly long and touch the face on a belt sander until the brass is even with the steel.

Its reasonably quick and very little work. The first one was a bit overkill as far as diameter goes so I didn’t make the 2nd so large.

If you reload handgun ammo ... there is a whole section devoted to working up shotshell loads in handguns over at the Cast Boolits Forum . Some of the members have Carpenter Bees that damage their wood buildings ... so they hunt them with handguns and shotshell reloads !
Had to start a whole section devoted to this ... you a reloader ?

Oh yeah. Since about 1987. Just never had trouble getting 22 shot shells until recently. And not just buying them from one of the above mentioned sites is one of my personal hangups. I just won’t go for the price gouging that’s so prevalent. And I feel that paying those kinds of prices (as much as my -06 rounds) goes too far against the grain for me. I reload shotgun shells and have plenty of hulls, wads, etc, that I will start shooting critters with those. I will probably try loading some 45 cases for the “1 round at a time “ challenges. Lots of good info in this thread, but I don’t have the tools/component's called for.
