I spent today shooting my CZ 542 at the range with some different types of ammo (Gmbh Standard Plus, CCI Mini-Mag, CCI Velocitor, Winchester Super-X Subsonic, and Federal bulk). After taking four three-shot groups for each, I found that the Gmbh Standard Plus grouped the best, followed by the Mini-Mags. The worst group was CCI Velocitor, which, oddly enough, was also the most expensive.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for other rounds for me to try. The cost should be under 12-15 cents per round. Thanks in advance.

Hotshot;
The ammo sold by Wolf, SK and the lower cost Lapua is all made on the same machinery in the same factory to the same standards by Lapua. The only difference between the "grades" is cost. The higher priced stuff is the exact SAME ammo that has tested slightly better in lot to lot test.
The shooters in my clubs smallbore prone competition and myself have conducted exhaustive tests & found essentially NO difference between any of them.
That said, The SK or Wolf / Lapua ammo DOES usually shoot very well in most rifles. My CZ 452 FS likes it, my Kimber 82g target rifle likes it as do most of my other rimfire rifles. (The SK Std + was good enough for me to win my clubs NRA Smallbore prone match this last weekend using it.)
The only ammo that I found to group better was and is Eley Match, Black box or Tenex. Both VERRRRY expensive, double or more the cost of SK / Wolf / Lapua ammo.

Most of my 22s really like CCI standard velocity. Its quiet and never goes trans/sub-sonic. The 22lr rarely has speed and accuracy. I like to stick to the slower stuff.

Hopefully some people from the monthly rimfire competition will chime in, but for now this I can say. Wolf, cci green tag, peter's performance (I don't even know if peter's is still around), and eley (purple box with yellow stripe. ran out last trip) work well. 40 gr lead round nose. Stay away from Hollow point, wad cutter, hollow tail, semi wad cutter at high velocity, hyper-, super, ultra, etc speed rounds when going for smallest size on paper.

I have a gander mountain, academy, bass pro, dicks, walmart, and several gun stores within 30 minutes driving. I grab a box of each $$ permitting and see what works for your gun. CCI blazer and federal solids I have gallon buckets full of these because they work for me and I can get them the cheapest (LGS sells a case as one box to save on tax and discount)

If you sort by weight and rim thickness, you can often times find a lower priced "match" ammo that will outperform the high end stuff. The trouble is you might end up with a pile of practice ammo for every handful of graded stuff that works for you.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions. I'm going to get some Wolf and a few of the others to try next week.

R H Clark, that's a nice group.

I have not shot any of the "high dollar" ammo, but my cz really likes CCI SV. here is a 5 shot group at 100 yards

Hotshot10: Well IMHO you have solved one part of the problem. You are shooting a CZ 452 22LR RIFLE. I don`t know about you but I think a CZ RIFLE is about as good as it gets. ken

federal american eagle, and (suprisingly i know) remington bulk packs. they come in a green lose box of 525 rds. actually quite good at least out of my ruger 10/22.

Wolf MT does best for me.

Try a variety of lead round nose standard velocity ammo. My 452 liked Aguilla brand. CCI standar velocity not quite as much.
