.22 mag

The 22 mag in a rifle is a pretty good round and folks probably don't sell them. They shoot much harder than a normal .22. From a pistol too.

22 mags don't have a rep for being extremely accurate, but some might be. I just don't think people let go of them. Buy one of those Savage 92's (93's?).

93s, Ive got one in .17. I think the 22mag is probably the most versatile of the rim fires. Its more expensive then the .22LR but as a hunting only cartridge it far out shines the .22lr. Here if you want a .22 mag you buy it new cause nobody will sell you theirs (its also the smallest round you can legally take boar with here).

I have a Savage 93FVSS and it is extremely accurate. It will shoot shoot dime sized groups all day at 50yds and quarter sized groups at 100yds. I haven't tried any of the more expensive ammo in it because it shoots the cheap stuff so well. It has the bull barrel on it. Cheaper than Dirt carries BVA 22mag bricks for about $75/500 and it shoots well in mine. Mine has the Accutrigger and I have it adjusted fairly light, which really improved the groups from the factory setting. I bought mine brand new and didn't have a problem finding one.

I have to also say I have two rifles in .22mag, one is an anschutz the other is a winchester lever rifle, both are very at putting holes in very small groups.

I think the above poster that said that people hang onto them....they work just great. I don't have a .17.....why would I need one I have two perfect .22mag that will do the same job already.....but if I did not own a 22 mag already I would be looking at the 17 pretty hard.

I had a savage 93BTVS in 22 mag. It was a really nice looking gun but wouldn't shoot anything I was putting through it. I ended up selling it and getting a Marlin 795. Other than my experience with it, I've heard great things about them.

I have a marlin bolt rifle in .22 mag. Could not tell you the model off hand. Bought it at wally world for 160 bucks. Plain jane ss with a synthetic stock. Its a pretty accurate rifle that get shot very little anymore. Yet everytime i grab the gun it hits what i am aiming at. Even with its rare use i wouldn't think of selling. No idea why its just belongs here.

I have a Marlin 925-M in 22 mag, its a fun, accurate rifle. I put a cheap Cabela's 3-9x40 scope on it and it shoot's 1.5" groups at 100 yards all day long.

The consensus seems to be that the .22 mag rifle(s) we own we keep. I know I do. My grandpa's Winchester 92-22mag is pretty as ever and so is my Ss Marlin with synthetic stock and Simmons scope bolt action. Worlds of difference in price, etc. but both keepers in my book. They are just too useful and handy.

Try this link. I've sold a few items on this site and they're solid. Many of the sellers are dealers. Some are private sellers.

The only caution that I offer is you should ask a lot of specific questions. I know from experience on another auction website that some sellers won't tell what you don't ask.

For example, I've been sold a camera accessory that was "like new" and looked good until I opened the battery compartment. Batteries had corroded in it and the corrosion had scraped away enough with a sharp object to get the item operational. In my mind the seller should have disclosed the corrosion in the auction description. From then on I asked that specific question when bidding on battery powered items.

I have a Mossberg Chuckster and it is a decent rifle. She likes to string when the barrel gets warm but I don't mind it.
I had one of those in HS when I lived in the NY Finger Lakes area. Woodchucks (well, their decedents now I guess!) still tremble at it's memory ... ;-) If you could SEE the Chuck in that 4X Weaver scope, it was as good as DRT.

Funny, around here they seem to come out in (used) bunches. I have a Marlim 25MN that was used hard by the previous owner, but still shoots great. LGS sold it for cheap. Bunch of non-hunters.

:D

Chuckster here too, still have it. 4x Bushnell scope came on it when I picked it up for a song and a dance. From my experiments with many different 22WMR brands, the ammo is what is hit or miss more so than the gun. Serious differences with most of the advertised hottest showing the loosest groupings and most fliers.

The Automag II likes the grey box Winchester ammo and NOTHING else.

Don,t agree with this statement? The 2 marlin 22 mags that I own are TACK DRIVERS.

I like my Savage 93 but the factory mags for them have always been problematic.
By four mags and maybe you'll get one good one for your trouble.

My Savage 24 is a .22mag/20gauge combo. It's my favorite squirrel getter. My 24 dates to approximately 1964, and has the rimfire and shotgun barrels brazed together for their entire length. As a consequence, the rimfire barrel is very stiff; it shoots dime-sized groups at 50 yards (aided by a 1-4X scope ... my eyes aren't that good with the irons).

As others have said, I think once one gets a .22WMR he or she likes, it isn't likely to be sold. Expensive compared to the .22LR for plinking, but a fine hunting round for small game and varmints inside reasonable ranges.
