Bolt action if I can only have one; mine's a CZ.
But I also enjoy my Ruger 10/22.

I have all of them and enjoy shooting them all, depends on what I am doing I guess and what I feel like shooting.

To me the question is like asking “what’s your favorite food?” You might really like Steak but your not going to eat that for every meal, every day for the rest of your life are you? Likely, you like a little variety in life, that’s the way I am, I can enjoy a break open single shot .22 just as much as a full auto one but for different reasons.

For me, my Henry lever is the most fun to shoot, (and the 22 that get's shot the most around here) but IF I could only have one 22, it would be my bolt action NULA.

Shooting a .22, for me, is more about accuracy than anything. The first firearm I ever bought for myself was a Marlin single-shot .22... still have it today. It's like a little laser beam with the right ammos. The slow rate of fire, the physical activity of manipulating the action, and the accuracy, of course, always puts a smile on me face.

I have other .22's... probably the most fun was a Remington pump that I had, you just couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it. That made it a lot less fun....

I went with bolt action, because its all I have now. I had a Marlin 795 for awhile, but realized I really didn't get any more enjoyment out of it being semi auto vs a bolt action. Ended up selling it to someone on here.

I enjoy shooting accurate rifles. I do thoroughly enjoy shooting semiauto 22LR’s because it’s immensely satisfying to remain on target, never break position, and repeat or pan between targets rapidly to deliver precise fire. Unfortunately, the gap remains between bolt action and semiauto rifles, such I have to compromise - either I have to run an easier course of fire (shorter ranges and/or larger targets), or I have to run slower and operate my bolt manually. In my dream world, I’d love a semiauto which shot as small as a bolt gun, but until then, I end up shooting a bolt gun when I really want to challenge my skills, and shoot a semiauto when I just want to play around.

I've got a crapton of rimfires. Over 50 at last count. I've also sold, traded or gifted more of them than anything else. I'm kinda surprised bolts got so many votes. For me it's:

1. Semi-auto by a slim margin
2. Levers and pumps tied
3. Single shot
4. Bolt action, easily dead last and by a wide margin.

My Marlin levermatic is the most fun to shoot, but I enjoy shooting any rimfire whenever I can. The levermatic moves in such a short arc that cycling requires only a slight flick of the fingers.

Like a few others I like accuracy. My 540XR and CZ's are fun and satisfying to shoot. But I have a couple semi autos that are good after some work. A very old Winchester 74 that took years to figure out now it shoots very well and a 10/22 I put a heavy barrel 25 years ago. I am thinking about either upgrading it or building a new one. I like what I have.

I love my 39a. The pumps are fun but burn through ammo fast and reloading the mag tube is a touch tedious.. The lever gives you as much or more mechanical interaction, slows you down just a bit, and is more accurate.

Well, poll is closed. Semi auto wins. Followed by bolt, lever, pump, single shot, then other.

In the generic sense, bolt action...because everyone knows they're more accurate. Except for the ones I own. I have 2 T/C .22 Classics that are the 2 most accurate rifles I've ever owned. So I pick them. Of course, everything I've owned has been in the sub-$500 range, so there's that. I bought the first one I ever saw, back in the early 00's. The 2nd I picked up about 3 months before my 10yr old was born. It'll be his shortly.
When dad and I shoot together, none of his super fancy 10-22's have out shot either of them yet. If he breaks out the 39A, I know I better focus.
