What do you recommend for 223 bulk ammo? Is Wolff any good or what would be better?

also agree......Federal XM193 shoots really good in my ar15 and Winchester Q3131A a close second between the two......

The NEW Wolf polymer-coated 223 is available for under $100 a case - SU-16 eats it like candy.

Can you tell me where to get this at? All the Wolf that I've been seeing looks like the old stuff to me, or at least they don't mention anything about polymer coating. The polymer stuff is supposed to have a blue color instead of the old green laquer look right?

I'll say this much .... Wolf and my Mini just do NOT get along .... I get tumblers!!!

However - American Eagle, and WWB ... prove very adequate for gen purpose .... and homeloads even better.:)

Ruger 77 MkII loves the WWB.

Dbl0Kevin ,
A couple of the places you can find the polymer-coated Wolf ammo in bulk are
CheaperThanDirt.com
Cabelas.com
www.outdoormarksman.com (7.62x39, but not .223)

I got my case of the polymer-coated .223 from Outdoors Marksman:

97588 Wolf 223 Rem 62gr Copper FMJ, 1000 rds $97.95

CANDY, I tell you... pure candy!

My preference is Fed XM193, but I have tried Wolf polymer for plinking.
It just isn't accurate, and is a bit dirty. Try a few boxes in your rifle to make sure it works for you before buying bulk.

I've used the 45AUTO 230GR TMJ, at least 500 rnds with no issues.
The 30 CARBINE 110GR TMJ 50/BOX stuff is another story. I have gone thru 5 boxes of that, & have had some split cases from each box. Headspace is fine in my M1 carbine & have had no issues with American Eagle, so I don't care for "American Ammunition" Brand .30 carbine ammo. I have Not tired their .223, and I do not plan to.

Does anyone know about SS109 Green Tip Steel Penetrator ammo in 223?
I have a box of S&B SS109 but I have yet to fire it. I see at at gunshows for around $3.50 a box. I'm sure it works as it supposed to and not at a bad price.

I have used a little Wolf but I was not super impressed, maintained good accuracy but velocity was a little low. As far as Russian .223 is concerned, it all is pretty much the same but if you do tests you will find that Barnaul (Brown Bear, Silver Bear) tends to be a little hotter and a little cheaper  . I have some Barnaul 62g softpoint which proved itself to be quite accurate and maintained velocity of over 3050 fps in a 20" barrel. For $2.75 a box you can't beat that! If I were to buy in bulk I would get S&B 55g FMJ, it's accurate, hot, reloadable, and cheap. You can get a case for a great price at The Outdoor Marksman, they have the Barnaul there as well. I myself would like to do some research on the Russian SP and HP bullets that they all use. I wonder if they will perform well balistically?

Sellier&Bellot (S&B) in the mint green box shoots very well from my guns. It's not as hot as Lake City or Q3131A. Last I saw it in Natchez it's close to or more than Q3131A in price. I'll by the Winchester if the prices are the same. If you want to spin the roulette wheel IMI .223 from Botach priced at 1200 rnds. for $189 is a good deal. Call them first to find out if they have it in stock before you order. Never tried any Wolf ammo so I can't comment on it.

Try the blue-box Black Hills. It's not super cheap, but it is very reasonably priced at Cabela's ($15 for 50).

It's also very accurate--in my TC Encore, the 52gr MHP will shoot 3 shot groups under a half inch @ 100 yards.

Black Hills Blue, great stuff!
Super accurate & better than Federal Match King, in my RRA Varmint.
Yes....not cheap enough to plink with..

How is that Olympic ammo? The Outdoor Marksman usually has it for pretty cheap and is running a special now:

Olympic 223 Rem 55gr FMJ (M 193), 1000 rds $129.95

Seems like a darn good price if it's good stuff. Anyone ever use it?
