I agree with this completely. M193 is all I shoot except for the occasional Federal or Black Hills Open Tip Match. I understand that South African M193 surplus is pretty decent as well if you can find any.Federal / Lake City XM193 or Winchester Q3131A
The NEW Wolf polymer-coated 223 is available for under $100 a case - SU-16 eats it like candy.
I have a box of S&B SS109 but I have yet to fire it. I see at at gunshows for around $3.50 a box. I'm sure it works as it supposed to and not at a bad price.Does anyone know about SS109 Green Tip Steel Penetrator ammo in 223?
I have used a little Wolf but I was not super impressed, maintained good accuracy but velocity was a little low. As far as Russian .223 is concerned, it all is pretty much the same but if you do tests you will find that Barnaul (Brown Bear, Silver Bear) tends to be a little hotter and a little cheaper . I have some Barnaul 62g softpoint which proved itself to be quite accurate and maintained velocity of over 3050 fps in a 20" barrel. For $2.75 a box you can't beat that! If I were to buy in bulk I would get S&B 55g FMJ, it's accurate, hot, reloadable, and cheap. You can get a case for a great price at The Outdoor Marksman, they have the Barnaul there as well. I myself would like to do some research on the Russian SP and HP bullets that they all use. I wonder if they will perform well balistically? What do you recommend for 223 bulk ammo? Is Wolff any good or what would be better?
