Hello I have a Howa 223 with a 1 in 12 twist.
I have rem cases, cci small rifle primers, ADI Benchmark 1 powder and Sierra 52 grain hpbt projectiles.

Does anyone have any info for how much grains for min and max ?
Or do you have a load using this powder and projectile that works for you ?

I read somewhere that the min and max is 21 to 23 grains but then on another site said 23.5 to 26.5 grains so I'm not sure.
On the ADI website it has 50grain hornady sp start is 22 and max is 24.5 grains of benchmark.
But then a 53grain sierra hp is 21 and 23 grains max.

I have tried 21.8 to 22.8 grains and best group was 1 1/4 inch at 100 yards which was disappointing :(

Also does anyone have any info for the same load but with 55grain hornady v-max ?

Thanks

my experience is a little limited with 223, in that I have loaded for 3 AR's with 1:7 twist and 1 mini-mauser with a 1:10 or 1:12 twist (cna't remember offhand). the ar's shoot most everything, but the minimauser won't shoot a 55 for anything. 2" at 100yds is the norm. If I drop it for a 50grn plain base groups shrink to about .5".

The moral I am trying to convey is that you might have a picky gun. try a different bullet weight or base or something if you can't get what you want with your current bullet/powder selection. Also, my best accuracies have always been closer to starting loads than max loads.

I'm don't think there were any pressure signs as the case was still good at 22.8 and had no cracks or stretches on it. But my friend at work loaded them for me while I was at he's house as I only got a machine yesterday.

I heard alot of people have good results with these projectiles like almost threading the same hole at 100 meters. I don't know why I can't get them to do the same on mine :(

The 53gn sierra data should work. You may have to play with the oal a little. That can sometimes make a big difference on accuracy.

As most of you already know, and something I learned because I am new at reloading, the length of the bullet and how far you seat it down into the case changes pressures. I was confused seeing load data for one bullet, a 55 grain FMJ BT could be loaded with 26 - 28 grains of 748 powder, and on the next page in the book a 55 grain Soft Point could be loaded with 25 to 26 grains of 748 powder. The length of the bullet and/or how far you push it into the case change things. So I am careful when looking at load data to match the bullet as close as possible, not just by bullet weight but by bullet length and overall cartridge length too.

I use enough pressure to give me five clean shots before the first flyer, and limit my targets to five shots apiece. This for soft varmint bullets, FMJ's I'm not too familiar with.

I have a load using the Hornady 55gr FMJ, and Hodgdon Benchmark. My load that works in my ARs is Hornady 55gr FMJ, 25.0gr Hodgdon Benchmark, Tula KVB-223 SRP, OAL:2.245". Here's the data that I referenced for the load above.

I read somewhere ....
Never go on what you seem to remember you read or what somebody's best friend said or some such. Get at least one name brand loading manual and work up from there with appropriate powders as instructed in the introductory pages.

Online data is good but no matter what, rely on published data and not hearsay and memory.
