.22LR ammo is now available, but where?

I prefer to support those in my neighborhood rather than support some far removed warehouse. To each his own...... As far as the government tracking anyone for ammo purchases, I figure if the government is tracking people for anything firearm related or for anti-big government actions, public statements, or oratory my file is already thicker than a phone book.

It's now mid May and our Bass Pro had Golden Bullet 525s, Thunderbolt 500s and CCI 100s all on the same day and several boxes of each. I bought 2 Golden Bullet bricks at $32 apiece for my son who lives in Greensboro, 90 miles away, and he can't find it very often. I buy a couple boxes whenever I find it and my round count is climbing into the thousands. I just purchased a Marlin 60 on sale at Bass Pro and it makes this old guy giggle it's so much fun to shoot. I'm working thru a 325 box of Federal and still have a ways to go to finish it.

For the last 2-3 years, I have been buying 22LR when I can find it...a brick here, a box or two there, and have now accumulated a few thousand rounds And I've not paid gouger prices for any of it. It is certainly more available than it was a year ago.

Yesterday, I walked into my local Wallyworld and the perpetual "Sorry we have no 22 ammo at this time" was off the gun cabinet. Hmmm....fell off, like last time? After all, it's been up there for the last 3 years at least. Taking a chance, I went into the DVD section and asked for help in Sporting Goods and they sent somebody over. I asked-the guy said "I've got one box for 50 bucks." It was Winchester M-22, 1000 rounds, so I grabbed it. Meh, what the hell, a bit of a cushion at least, since I have a new membership in the county sportsman's club and plan to make use of it. First ammo bought in about 5 years. He put the sign back up as I was leaving.

I did the same thing and have good cache that feeds my urges especially for plinking. The "giggle" is part of why you shoot semi-auto 22's (or at least a good reason). The Model 60 is a good one for that. Have fun. Life is too short not to giggle.

It's everywhere now. Places that I haven't seen it at in a long long time have it now, including a family member's store(I get a discount! Cheapest .22 in a long time). I have a lot of it now, enough to go shoot all day and not worry about how much I use.

Gun show sellers are mighty proud of their offerings. Fifteen cents a shot for Mini-Mags most of the bulk pack was running ten cents a shot. I'm so happy I bought a couple of cases back in those good old days and do not shoot much 22LR.

Its still no-where close to being readily available in any of the places I go to in S.Cal and that seems to be confirmed on Calguns.net

Only occasionally available here where I live in Oregon. I personally haven't seen any in a local store for the last 3 years or more. A friend has but he is retired and seems to know when they will have some in. But I've never seen any.

I walked into a Walmart last week, and they had Winchester hi-speed 22lr's and CCI 22 Win. mags right on the shelf. A few days later I went to a Cabelas, and they has LR's and mag's too...

Too much trouble driving around and checking the brick and mortar stores. Prices high too high for the promotional brands. I just order by the case from Champion. Get EleyTarget for 600 a case. Better ammo a less cost that the stores.

Yesterday (sunday) I happen to be at Walmart and low and behold.... they had some Mini Mags.

That's the 1st time I've seem them there in 3 years.... which I mentioned to the guy.

The nice guy said they just got them that day and asked if I was alone ... :scrutiny: ... Turns out he was trying to let me buy 2x the limit if we rand it up as 2 transactions.

It also turns out the limit was 1 box of 100. I guess tagging along with the wife paid off cause I got 2.. yes...2 100 count boxes.:what:

$7.47 ea +8% tax = $8.07 ea.

gander has been getting some in every few months. usually federal 325 round boxes. it shoots better than I can. I buy some every time I get a chance so have 2 or 3 boxes built up, but it is only available sporadically.

I saw some 22LR shot shells at walmart 3 or 4 months ago. the only 22 I have seen there in several years, although the sporting goods people there claim they get some in now and then, but not a lot.

someone told me the local farm and fleet had some but I have not seen any there in a long time.

I have also been told that a walmart about 15 miles away gets a shipment in every thursday morning that is gone by 9 am. I have no idea how true it is, but the guy that told me it has bought ammo there early on Thursday mornings several times. It is convenient for him as that walmart is on the way to work.

various people have told me about ammo finds at LGS, but when I call they always seem to deny having any 22LR.

I have also been told some people are having luck getting it shipped in, but so far I have not run across any I want that I can get shipped.

I suspect if I spent more time on the problem I would likely find more.

I got a thousand rounds from sportsmans wear house near Seattle for $0.06-$0.07 per round. Not as cheap as it use to be but a lot better than I've seen it before.

The Sportsman's Warehouse near me had half a dozen small boxes of .22 on the shelf with a purchase limit. It's something.

Some Wal-Mart clerks told me that they get .22 ammo less than once a month, and that they can't even snag it.

Yesterday bass pro shop in nw Indiana had Winchester 325 packs for 18.99
Grabbed 4. Plenty left on shelf
It's the first time I found 22 on a shelf anywhere after Obama got elected

As of recently most smaller LGS type stores around here have a modest selection. Usually one or two of the more premium rounds is all.

Until now...

One I visited this morning had a full shelf with a dozen types of long rifle. Velocitor, Minimags, bulk Automatch, etc. Even buckets of GoldenBullets! Plus 17 and magnum rimfire options. I was in awe. Haven't seen nothing like that for years.

Big box stores are still bare most of the time. They get shipments in, but the vultures swoop in and clean things up rather quickly.

Things are finally looking up though.

Nothing that I've seen in Corvallis, Oregon for the last 3-4 years.

Apparently a few boxes occasionally appear at one local store and are gone nearly immediately.

Definitely getting annoyed at the lack of 22lr. Luckily I still have some rounds left from before.

If you are desperate...

I have no idea if it works or if it's economical. It would be great if it was!

I check my Walmart sporting goods area when I am there. Yesterday they actually had 22 ammo. So I picked up 1000 rounds. My daughter is learning to shoot and she loves the 22. I do miss the days of 500 round bricks for ten bucks though.
