I was just cruising through Dick's this morning in NC and saw some Remington buckets behind the counter. I asked the sales clerk what they were and he said "1400 rounds of LR22 36 gr for $69.99" - so I grabbed one. $0.05 per round doesn't seem bad! I left 2 buckets there, but shore was tempted to take them all if they had let me...

I'm assuming this is a good sign on the supply?? Last time I was at a gun show this year, you couldn't get a decent price for 22LR - if you could even find it.

That's great news, that's where the 22 round should be priced! Let us know if there are problems with these rounds or if they are the same quality as other 22 rounds priced a lot higher.

Availability if 22LR at Dick's may be artificially high because of a good number of people who won't patronize them any longer. OTOH, the two LGS I frequent that didn't stop stocking EBR's also have plentiful 22LR though slightly more that what they used to cost.

Not bad for the price. I havent been to Academy Sports lately but its the same story, no .22 LRs unless you fall in line early inthe morning.

Same thing available at Gander and just like there, it is held behind the counter and you have to ask for it. Bought one - works great in all of my .22

The last time I saw Remington's "new and improved" Golden Bucket O' Bullets was last October and haven't seen any since then. Are they really new and improved because I have pretty much given up on expecting any kind of quality from Remington rimfire ammo?

You guys can have all you want. There is a good reason why Dick's can't charge much more for that cheap quality.

.22LR ammo which does Not cause constant gas blowbacks can be worth .10/rd.
Have fun out there.

so what is Remington doing to screw up a .22 ?? As a reloader, I can only assume they put crappy powder in them?

I don't have an AR-22, so I don't know how they would affect them. But I should be able to hit squirrels with my 1941 .22 pump rifle just fine...

Remington bulk ammo works as well as Winchester in my rifles. Both are fine for plinking.
If Dick's puts it on sale for $1 a bucket I won't go in there. I will not shop in Target either. Eat at Chipotle? I don't think so!
There is a Dick's and a Target within a mile of my city home so I pass by them every week and never even consider going in to spend my money.

Hi...

No idea why so many are apparently upset with Dick's, but if they have some of those buckets at the local store, I will buy one at that price.

The local Dick's generally has a good selection of shotgun shells (hunting loads) that other retailers don't have, so I buy a few boxes there every year before hunting season. I can find better deals on generic shotshells for breaking clay birds at Wal-Mart.

Dick's has good deals on hunting clothes and boots every fall, if I need something new and Dick's has it at a good price, I'll buy it.

Their stance about guns a few years ago did a lot to tick folks off. When they first opened here they always had shotgun ammo on sale every three weeks, all you wanted. Now, they still barley have anything, hardly any guns and those are all cheap HD crap, and they have limits on ammo where everyone else removed them months ago. I used to get golf gloves there as I wear them when I shoot sporting clays, but they stopped having specials on them as well.

They are more into golf, fitness and kids' sports stuff here where I live

Dick's basically made a corporate decision to remove all "Assault style Rifles" from the shelves after the Sandy Hook situation. They bowed to political pressure and managed to alienate many people.
I'm not telling anyone where to shop or not to shop but I for one absolutely refuse to spend my money at ANY store that has policies like this. I am sure Dick's is devastated by my decision. Can't carry in Target because of a political decision. Can't carry in Chipotle for the same reason.

I picked up a brick of the Golden Bullets at BPS a week or so back, but haven't shot any yet. Are they better than, worse than, or about the same as the Thunderbolts?

I know the T-bolts are regarded as crap; I have a brick of them as well; figured they'll be okay for my Henry lever and my Heritage Rough Rider.

i pass on thunder duds or any other remington ammo same with winchester. i shoot marlins and they dont like it. i refuse to fix a problem by makeing another one.

I get duds from Remington Gold, or Remington Thunder .22 shells in the kids Savage Youth Rifles. They seem to work 99% in my adult Ruger and Savage bolt action but the youth rifles they are problematic.

Winchester and CCI seem to do fine in the savage cub & rascal rifles. I suspect the lighter springs, lighter strikes.

For what it's worth.

I've been having a lot of luck with Walmart lately. Seems like if I show up on a Saturday morning before noon I've got about a 50/50 chance of finding .22LR on the shelves now. It's gone by that evening, but I've managed to replenish my stash of the last 6-8 weeks.

Honestly I would check Dick's (nothing to show the retail world that gun owners are not to be ignored like driving up sales of gun related stuff), but there's not one in my local town so it'd be about 15-20 minutes to drive to the nearest one. Not worth checking just as a gamble.

22lr

I have a Browning 1911A! .22 and a Henry .22 lever action. I bought a couple of boxes of Federal .22's lead nose, 36 grain and neither gun liked them (stove pipes
in the pistol). The Henry would barely feed.
I've purchased CCI Lead Round Nose 1070 fps Standard Velocity 40 grain rounds and have haven't had any problems of any kind. Just my 2 cents.
