23 State Attorneys General To Attorney General Holder: "No Semi-Auto Ban"

Friday, June 12, 2009

On June 11, the top law enforcement officials of nearly half the states signed a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, expressing their opposition to reinstatement of the federal ban on semi-automatic firearms.

"We share the Obama Administration's commitment to reducing illegal drugs and violent crime within the United States. We also share your deep concern about drug cartel violence in Mexico. However, we do not believe that restricting law-abiding Americans' access to certain semi-automatic firearms will resolve any of these problems," the letter said.

The letter notes congressional opposition to bringing back the ban, and calls for increasing enforcement of existing laws.

We encourage NRA members to let these state officials know we appreciate them standing up to the incessant clamor for gun control that is currently coming from anti-gun groups and their media allies.

The 23 state Attorneys General, in alphabetical order, by state, are:

Arkansas – The Honorable Dustin McDaniel
Alabama - The Honorable Troy King
Colorado - The Honorable John W. Suthers
Florida - The Honorable Bill McCollum
Georgia - The Honorable Thurbert E. Baker

I am pleased, but not shocked, to see:

Michigan - The Honorable Mike Cox

on the list. I have met, but do not personally know Mr. Cox. The gentleman has some serious integrity.

Feel free to correct me but sometimes i feel like michigan is a northern texas. I should home someone is our state is protecting our gun rights.

Mike Cox is a good man. We need more like him everywhere.

Perhaps the Republican that replaces Obama will appoint Cox to the SCOTUS...

How many if's was that?... ;)

Twenty three out of fifty is significant but not a majority. If nothing else, it reveals those who are NOT friends of the RKBA by their absence on this letter.

Those of y'all from states NOT shown on the letter - time to write your elected state officials and ask why they're afraid of you having a semiautomatic rifle...

Roy Cooper needs to get on the ball, but he is a Democrat who has higher political goals. The only decent thing he ever did was drop the charges against the Duke players.

Go Missouri

I think they should have also stated that if there are any new gun laws what so ever that the states listed will succeed from the union. Just my opinion.

Maybe, the more the federal government reveals its intent to enslave America, more and more states will join in a secession movement?

I mean, after all, when Americans are paying ~25%+ of their gross income in taxes, and these taxes go to fund programs these same Americans oppose (career welfare deadbeats, preferred educational benefits to minorities, free medical care to illegals, low interest business loans to foreign nationals, etc), I'd think it's past time to reel the federal govt in.

It's only a matter of time, isn't it? Otherwise, we're going to wind up like Britain where the individual is required to assume a peasant status in order to placate the political elitists.

Colorado included. I didn't initially expect to see that.

No doubt, The Honorable John W. Suthers its not exactly what most of us here would consider pro-gun.

Considering he's not allowed to sign anything like this without Governor Ritter's permission, I'd say its a good sign that ole Ritter is starting to get a little afraid of his re-election prospects.

Not that I want to be the cynic in the back,..... but will this make any difference? I hope it does, I'm just not holding my breath.
:uhoh:

(I am writing a HUGE thank-you note to my states AG! Good on him!)

Mine is on there. We could use some help from Mississippi........come on guys, were neighbors.......:)

I'm not so sure that the absence of a given AG from this list means he opposed it. For all we know it got sent to his office while he was on vacation. Or it sat in his inbox too long...
