+1 for the 1100 20. This gas action takes so long to lock up, it realy spreads the recoil over a long cycle. When I first hunted w/ my new Benelli Montelfeltro 20, I was getting slapped in the face with regularity. My hunting partner had a well worn 1100 20, and it is the softest shooting shotgun I have ever fired. I let him shoot my Benelli the rest of the afternoon while I took my limit w/ his 1100. We had a Red Label O/U in 28 on hand as well, and it was harder on the shoulder than the 1100. Definately sounds like you need a gas auto 20.

Dr. Tad -Jim beat me to it - in fact, Jims's Eye and Ear is where I bought it - small business that is great to do business with. (and I'm not sure if this is the same person)......I bought the whole cap and weight so i didn't have to drill or do anything - unscrew one, replace with the new.....why did I pick 8oz?....pure luck and guess work.......works AWESOME....before, that light 25" barrel was ALL over the place - with that weight on, and I felt like I was shooting my GTI, except in a gas gun in 28 gauge....but the swing was smoooooooooooooooooth

Whether you use Jim or someone else, it makes. IMO, a WORLD of difference

And 1 oz. high speed loads are available for the 28 ga. I usually use copper or nickle plated #6's in the second barrel for pheasants.

If you find anything that is a very effective wingshooting shotgun, and is easier shooting, than a Remington Model 1100 in 28 gauge, buy it. If you add the magazine cap weight and/or a stock weight, it will shoot even softer, but weigh a tad more. I routinely shoot mine one handed.
