Other: Why compromise when you can have it all?

I'm also pretty sure Krochus wants a cartridge which will shoot a 125 gr bullet at 2300-2400 fps, which is excellent for antipersonnel and medium sized deer out to 150 yards or so.

.338 whisper is useful only for getting the most energy while remaining subsonic. In terms of energy, period, all the .221 based cases are equal with equal bullet weights, as .300/221 is quite capable of shooting a 240 grain bullet at 1400 or so FPS.

I have used 5.56 brass only, Lake city brass only.

contact tp555 from quarterbore.net, he can make you a barrel, he made mine and its extremely high quality, super fast turnaround and way lower priced than I would have ever expected(you'll have a custom barrel for under $200). He uses a clymer reamer, you don't need to neck turn.

ar15barrels is not making barrels anymore I don't think, I know there are outstanding orders still.

It is nice that the only thing that needs changing is the barrel, use existing parts if you want.

Listen to me now and believe me later.

I made a 7.62x38 AR upper. The bolt faces crack. I went through two or three of them in 500 rounds. The 7.62x39 subsonic for AR concept does not work. 300 Fireball is the way to go.

Wow old thread!

I guess an update is in order, several thousand rounds downrange and several dead critters as far out as 250 yds have md quite happy with my 7.62x39mm. I think the bolt breaking issue is a bit overblown, it seems as though the only folks breaking bolts with STD pressure loads are the FA, SBR guys.

In addition to the x39 I now find myself in ownership of a 20" white oak upper chambered for .30HRT

look for a range report soon

I was FA, SBR, and silencer. No doubt parts would last longer for a 16 or 20 inch semi with no silencer. Still, it is a compromised design not using appropriate design parameters and for me that rules it out. I wish it were not the case.
