.357 Mag Double Action control schooling?

shoot 38s everything should be the same till the gun goes bang. I'm new to revolvers but since I mainly shoot 38s out of my 6 inch gp 100, I don't shoot any different when using 357 mag cartridges. I only notice the heavier recoil after the shot but squeezing off the shot and hand placement on the grip was no different. shots were just as accurate maybe a tad more accurate for the 357 mag once you're at 50 yards(shooting steel) less drop compared to some of the 38 special loads I have. I also mainly shoot it double action. It allows me to stage the front sight with the last bit of trigger pull. Again up until it goes bang everything is the same.

When I bought my 642 I had to get on the dao bandwagon in a hurry. I posted a 1" target dot on a wall about 10 yards from my favorite chair. I just dry fired slooowwwwly dozens of times or more every night until I could pull through the trigger with only imperceptible movement of the sight.

tape a piece of paper to a wall.
"load" your weapon with a pencil--with a good erase.
Place your weapon near the paper, 1" or 2"
"fire" the pencil--note the mark it marks.
practice firing with the aim of placing near the original mark.

When doing the pencil trick ^^^, it helps if you wrap the pencil with masking tape until it's almost the bore size and still moves freely in the barrel.

This is actually a pretty good exercise. But do include an aiming point consisting of a + sign for the sight picture. The pencil points will be down well below your line of sight otherwise as you won't have anything to aim at.

You also need to raise the gun or move it forward to push the eraser back against the recoil shield. Otherwise the firing pin can't hit it.

All the above is excellent advice. Here's some more. Make or have made some .38SP pissant loads like 3gr WW231 behind a Missouri 125gr LRNFP cowboy bullet. It shoots about like a .22 and might even be cheaper.
