Does anyone know the effective range of the ,40cal SW in a carbine. I have to assume the distance is further than both the 9mm and 45ACP. The reason I ask is that I own a Beretta CX-4 Storm .40 (2nd one) but have never shot it at any distance. Also if anyone knows the amount of drop at 100yrd that would be great.

I was researching the Sub-2000 in .40 not too long ago, and read reports of reliable hits on man sized targets out to 200 yards with iron sights. I don't have any personal experience on the subject though.

I have had very good accuracy at 75yds with my HiPoint 40carbine, shooting clays on the berms at 100yds was not at all beyond its reach; I'd say only 2-3" drop. Fabulous plinking...

One time flying back from the midle east we stopped and got fuel somewhere in Europe. I wanna say it was Amsterdam.

Anyways they had us in our own section of the terminal and had two guards at the exit armed with MP5s. A few of us gun nuts began talking to the guys about the MP5 and one said they regularly shot them out to 300 meters with success.

I have a CX4 9mm, and shoot it regularly to 200yds - which is where the LR rear peep is zeroed.

At 200yds, I've got an old aluminum beer keg hanging from a tree-branch, and when you hit it it rings like a gong.

At that range the shape of your projectile will matter, with drag, and a 9mm FMJ with a round-nose will do much better than a hollow point - With the .40 I'd try both the conical and round-nose type rounds, and maybe stay with the lighter bullets, unless there's a stiff crosswind.

As for effect and lethality, I think 200yds and a 165gr .40 ball would mess up a coyote; but it would not be an ethical shot on deer-sized game.
