I'm going to be pickup up a .40 for CC in the next month or so and I'm stuck with which to choose. I have narrowed it down to two choices and I'm kicking around the pros and cons of each. I kicked around the idea of a Glock 27 but the grip is slightly smaller than what I'd like to carry (only .2 smaller than the SW I know). In fact, I'd rather go larger on the grip if I have to which is why I looked at the 23. Just like to see what others have to say, besides site-reviewers. Thanks.

Heh I am in the same situation... I wanted a S&W M&P 40 but I can't find a full size 40 ANYWHERE I may have to get it in 9mm and sell the ammo I have to someone that can use it...

either are nice guns.. but i would suggest a xd40sc or the m&p... i personally am not a big glock fan but im not really baist i know glock is a fine weapon... they just have a weird grip angel to me... but most ppl get used to it... they are all reliable and all accurate... so its all about feel of the weapon...

Have you tried either? .40 in a Compact frame is very snappy and not for the feint of heart.
That being said, I would drink the Kool-Aid. Sip it slowly.

The M&P40 is a great gun, I like the trigger much better than a Glock and it fits my hand better. Although I'm only familiar with the fullsize version, I've never tried the compact.

Well, when I saw that you were eying the G23, that was all it took. I have a lot of pistols, and I really like most all of them. But the G23 is my fav.

I chose the Glock 23 when I decided to go to the .40 or .45. I really liked the feel of my Glock 19 and that made my decision as to wheich caliber. i'm not sure I really considered any other brand. I cannot tell much difference in shooting the two. As a carry weapon it has to work and be totally reliable. I have thousands of rounds through my Glocks and have never had a single FTE, FTF, jam, or any other problem. I feel comfortable with them.

I have the M&P 40c and carry it daily OWB in a Bang Stick holster. Don't even know its there. Also S&W has the 2 mag freebee going on until the end of April.

if you handle them, there will be no hesitation but to go with the M&P.. much more comfortable gun it the hand, better safety features... better package in my opinion.. Glocks go bang every time you pull the trigger... that is about all that can be said of them. (good, but not good enough)

Both are great. I went with a Glock 27 and bought a couple glock 23 magazines and a mag extension. This gives me the ability to carry either the sub compact G27 or convert it to the size and capacity of a G23 depending on my need to conceal. I can shoot any pistol well at self defense ranges, but I find that the flexability and reliability of the G27 trumps the ergonomics of the M&P. I've been fortunate enough to own some very nice pistols......when it comes to home defense and CCW, Glock is always my first choice (until I can get to my shotgun that is).

Either pistol will serve you well.

i thought the sigma had the best grip till i shot a m/p,feels like a extension of the hand and shot great, but ill keep my steel s/w.good luck,he also has a taurus 24/7,which has been a good gun.good luck either will do you well.

Glock

I am a Glock lover. I have the 22, 23, and the 27. For CC, I bought the mag extender for the 27 and it's perfect for me. But that's just my 2 cents.

.40 options

i have a s&w .40 sigma it is a large frame pistol but it is very accurate and very reliable(1 jam out of 1000 shots) dont know how it would feel in a compact form

I wouldn't want a compact 40 unless it had a full grip on it. A 40 is snappy enough in a full size polygun. I could imagine in a compact...

Shot a .40 and a 9mm today and neither I nor my brother-in-law could tell a difference. Loved the .40 and it will be my next purchase.

Sig P239 40 S&W NS

My choice. Find it fits well under a shirt or shoulder holster. Maybe a bit on the more weight than some may like, but accurate.

For all those concerned with .40 compacts being an issue for me in regards to control, don't worry. I've shot plenty of .40's most recently the Taurus Millenium Pro, which is actually lighter than the S&W, and I had no issues. I actually like the way the Millenium Pro shot, but I don't prefer the gun over the 23 or the .40Compact.

I hated Glocks for the longest time. Couldn't shoot one without serious slide bite. Then I shot one with a Crimson Trace laser grip... now I carry a G23 with a Crimson Trace everyday. Most comfortable, easiest pointing gun I've ever fired.

I shot both the M&P 40c and Glock 23 back-to-back a couple of months ago while I was going through the same decision-making process. In my case, I was able to shoot the M&P better than the Glock. I found the M&P's ergonomics to be superior and easier to get back on target quickly. In my view, there wasn't much difference between the two in terms of accuracy, etc., but the M&P was just a bit better in my hands.

With that said, I ended up buying the M&P 45c rather than a .40 at that time. Shortly afterward, I found a great deal on a used Glock 27 and tend to carry that a bit more often than the M&P due to its slightly shorter grip. Although it has only minimal muzzle flip, I find it more difficult to shoot as accuractely as either the G23 or M&P 40c. YMMV.

Well, I ordered the M&P and should have it in a few days. Now the question is which holster to get. I want a nice IWB with belt loops. I was looking at this one:
