I own a 9mm and .45 XD, both in the service models.
One of the reasons I bought XDs instead of Glocks was because of the grip safety.
I don't even notice it, don't even think about it. It's simply an extra measure of safety that I appreciate.
Holstering can be done safely simply by placing the thumb on the striker indicator, or grasping the grip in the fingers rather than with a normal grip. Even if the trigger snags it's not going to fire.
I'm not an anti-glock nut--I've shot 'em, they performed well for me. It's just that the features of the XD fit my wants and needs better.
