I load 40 sw with HS 6 works great , but most of the powder in that mid burn range will work just fine , I would avoid the faster burning powders and start at the min charge weight
And go up from there.
I have also had good luck with aa#7 , power pistol , WSF , true blue , silhouette , powders are starting to fill the shelf so find one you like and stack up before / if it goes dry again

That is a long list you're asking for. Check out Alliant, Ramshot, and Hodgdon's site and look up their data for the 40. :)

Never had to experiment much with .40SW, the first powder I decided to try was AA#7 and it works great so I've not tried loading it with anything else. My only goal was a load that reliably cycled the gun and shot about the same POA as my carry load.

AA#7 is probably the best choice for loading the 40 S&W. As said above, most medium burn speed powders will work in the 40 S&W with Longshot and HS-6 following close behind AA#7.

I have a lot of 40 brass and would like to start reloading them, so what is a good powder for the 40?.

Jack,
I load alot of 40. Best results I have had is with CFE Pistol and HS6. Have used #7 too much powder, #5 ran dirty IMO , wsf did not like recoil on it, universal works and zip also works. I load for target only so depends on what your after for results.

Targets I have two books Barnes and Hornady Barnes has two powders Horner has a lot more. What's the powder weigh for cfe? I have no data for that.

Best powder I've used in 40 S&W with 165 grain bullets is Winchester Super Field - WSF. AA#7 would be a good choice also. I didn't care for AA#5 for my loads though. Unique works well also. Several great powders for 40.

Jack, run 7.0 grs for 155gr plated and 6.8 for 165gr plated with CFE. Bullets are from Xtreme RNFP
KC is correct either Hodgdon's site or their newest reloading manual has the only data for CFE.

Favorite Propellent for 40 S & W

It depends on what you are looking for. I like HP38/WW 231 for lead target loads. Red Dot also works good as does Titegroup. I use Clays or Alliant ClayDot for 155 grain plated. I use Power Pistol for full bore loads with jacketed bullets. I have also tried BE86 for full power loads and find it good also. There is no set answer as what to use. If I was limited to one powder for all loads it would be Hp38/WW231.Another big plus it is much more economical. If you are not on a budget as I am others have suggested some good powders .
