Alright you. .45. Enthusiasts I want to find a .45 auto and I base my pistols on how they fit my hand and am in now way loyal to one brand but I would like to stay cheaper ie. Not Colt or Kimber. What do you all like and please give me pros and cons I am a bigger guy with bigger hands and don't completely like the compacts but am open to all opinions Thanks
BTW an looking@ springfeilds 1911 or XD-M in. 45. If anyone has one of these would love the intel.

Big Hands = FNP 45 for a polymer or CZ 97B for steel. Both are excellent guns. Both are extremely accurate and durable. Polymer will give you higher capacity. I have both guns and really like them both.

If you plan to ccw, these guns are a little big. You need to give us more info.

Really im looking for opinions so I can then go physically look I am open to any poly or steel if you have one you like lemme know it will not be a Ccw pistol its just a take to the range piece size doesn't matter. Lol. No pun intended.

I love my Glock 21sf GenIII. I couldnt make it jam if i wanted to. The best grip on a .45 though would have to be the HK45 except it ain't cheap. I also prefer the higher mag capacity of the Glock 21, HK USP and FN 45.

+1 on the CZ 97B. Saw one at the CR gun show this Friday night, and decided that I need to pick one up as soon as I get a spare 600. Either that, or a Sarsilmaz K2. Saw one of those (display model only) at the gun show also. Nice gun, especially for $450.

I've shot 1 full-sized Kimber, 1 Kimber Ultra Carry, 1 Smith & Wesson M&P, and 1 Glock 36 in .45 ACP. All were fantastic! Unlike .380, 9mm, etc, mostly only good quality companies dabble in .45.

Just my opinion, though... I don't think I would buy a .45 poly frame. If I buy a .45, it's going to be a 1911.

I have had many Springfield's from stock to race guin and all have been absolutely stellar for the price. My favorite was the Defender but sadly, it is no longed available. And mine was all tricked out by Ted Yost. Anyway, you can't really go wrong with a SA 1911, and if needed I think you can get them in double stack although for me, that is against a lot of the beauty of the 1911 form factor.

The RIA Tactical is a great 1911 for the money. It's about $50-$70 more than the basic GI model but comes with the upgrades most people want in their 1911s. You won't touch those upgrades for $70 if you have them done by a 'smith.
Mine has been essentially trouble free since breaking in and buying some quality magazines, so I haven't needed to use their reportedly outstanding customer service.

The Ruger P series are a great bang for the buck in a DA/SA semiauto. Alas, they don't make the P90 anymore and the P97 & P345 have polymer frames and issues with the mag disconnect safety. Nothing really wrong with them if you follow the manual, but if it was me I would hunt up a used P90. My KP90 (stainless version) is big, heavy, (some say) ugly, and not for sale. ;)
I can say from experience that Ruger customer service is as good as it gets.

Strictly my own personal bias but I probably won't buy a striker fired pistol. A handgun should be made of metal and it should have a hammer. ;)

My suggestion would be a RIA 1911. It will come with ugly smooth stocks which you can replace with a palmswell pair to fit those big hands.

If you're looking for a comparison pistol with that set-up, ATI makes a rail gun (Thunderbolt) with palmswells from the factory. Since you don't need a rail at the range I'd not suggest spending the extra money vs. the RIA.

~$500 total.

Here is my newly aquired RIA 1911 with a nice houge grip, picked it up lightly used for $350 and it has been flawless so far:

The FNP-45 is an excellent choice. If you want a 1911ish model you might look at double stack models like the Para 14-45 (aka Super Hawg) or the Springfield GI 45 high cap (PW9701LP).

I've got to vote for the XDm 45. Out of every 45 I've ever handled or fired, I like it the most.

If someone offered me a free Glock 21, XDm 45, Colt 1911, SA 1911, Sig 220, or M&P45, I'd take the XDm 45 in a heartbeat. Just my two cents.

I own the XDm in .45 ACP. When I bought it, the contenders were the G-21, M&P .45, the FN FNP-USG .45 and the XDm. The XDm won out over the others. I have a PRP Match Easy target trigger kit in mine and it is Match accurate. Second choice was the FN FNP but reports at FN forum showed that it can be picky about which ammo it likes. ;)

SIG P220 or a 1911. I have one of each and like them both and can't really pick one I like over the other.

I am hearing a lot of postitive feedback on the new Ruger 1911 which should help you keep the cost down for a 1911.
