Well I guess I have alot of great feed back and holding the XD its comfy but I think it'll be the 1911 it fits hands and a 1911 just looks dead sexy.. lol thanks guys will post pics when its in hand.

The absolute best handling and comfortable pistol in .45 I have is a Ruger P97...yea, it is a polymer, but it fits my hands perfect(I got big hands)...and shoots great!
The 2'nd best .45 I have, again fits my hands perfect and shoots well, is A Bersa .45 UC Pro....all metal.
And the prices on both are very good(of course the P97 is out of production, but you can still find one every now and then).
I believe I paid $420 for my Bersa .45 NIB. :D
Check them out!

I have a Ruger P-90, and it is ahhhh "chunkier" than a 1911. fits bigger hands better than a box-stock 1911, IMHO

I think Ruger has discontinued the P-90 but does offer the P-345

springfields are excellent 1911s as long as you dont go with their bottom shelf GI models. I own the XDM45 and have no intention of ever getting rid of it. I shoot it better than any 9mm I've ever shot(aside from my brothers XDM9). another good 1911 is the Ruger SR1911 but they sold out almost overnight after they came out in april. another polymer 45 to look at would be the FNP45.

If my SR 1911 isn't in the store in the next 2 weeks, I'm opting out for the 97B. I only own 2 CZ's (both 9mm). CZ's are, imo the most accurate, and most of all.... affordable pistols on the market today. Even if I do get the Ruger, I'll still end up with a 97B as well. I'm hooked.

Jeff, many people find the CZ 75B the most accurate 9mm out there, certainly more accurate than any polymer gun.

My [Owned] Choices

Glock 30SF
Glock 21
Ruger KP-90
Military Surplus 1911
Llama "Especial" (cheap, old, shoots everything)
S&W 625
Taurus Tracker

Guns are like coffee and beer to me. Try many; settle on a few.

My three:
SIG P220
Dan Wesson PM7-S 1911
Smith 625 Performance Center

As far as I'm concerned, I have near perfect specimens of each type.

If you are primarily looking at a range 1911, I highly recommend the Sig 1911s. They are stainless steel frame/slide and come in Nitron (ionbond) finish with the price range of $700-$800. I have the railed TACPAC and it is very accurate. Here are detailed photos and range report - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=7569455#post7569455

Around $500 range, I recommend the Rock Island Armory Tactical. My friend's tactical model has tight frame-to-slide fit (on par with my Sig) and is also very accurate.

I have a Sig C3, a Witness full size steel, and an M&P45c in 45 acp. All are dependable, and accurate. I like all of them, but my favorite is the 45c.

Sorry guys but I have to throw my hat in the ring with Para Ordinance P-12... since it's already saved my life once, I'm kinda partial to it. I've also got a Para G.I. Expert that cooks off anything I feed it.

I like .45's, so I've got RIA A-1's and A-2's, Springfield stainless, and am waiting on an SR-1911 Ruger as well. Maybe my "brand" would be "whatever I happen to have in my hand at the time..." I like both the feel and shooting characteristics of all those guns, and they don't seem to change regardless of whether I'm shooting single stack or double stack designs... I just get more shots with some.

I know that's not really "an answer", but I'd grab any one of them for self defense and cause a real problem for whoever is on the other end... they all work flawlessly.

I have 3 variants of the G21, a G36, Para GI Expert, Caspian Custom, and an STI TargetMaster. Dont make me pick just one. I unknowingly became a .45 slut. That's what my dealer says, anyway. :) Steel .45 : save up and get an STI through Dawson Precision with their FO front sight. Polymer: there are 3 different .45 platforms from Glock-shoot them and pick the one which you shoot the best. Had an FNP .45 and loved it, but the aftermarket support is pretty thin right now for parts, etc..

Don't forget to look at the

Taurus PT-1911. I have a dozen 1911's including 5 Kimbers, 2 RIA's, SA's and Taurus. I have two of the Duotone 1911's and they are my Favorite full sized guns. They are the most reliable and most accurate of all my 1911's. No, I am not drunk.:neener: I have a few thousand throu each of them and neither has had a bobble that wasn't due to my reloads and the was less than a handful of those through both guns. Three of my Kimbers carry new price tags of $1200 give or take and both Taurus guns will outshoot them. You can't buy a gun with as many features as the Taurus without spending a boat load more money. You can get the ugly blued/black model for right around $500 and it should shoot every bit as well as mine. The Rock Island are good guns for the money but the Taurus is an even better value.

I have owned the 2 1911s one colt one IAI and one Ruger and now 2 witnesses one steel one a poly compact all in 45acp. My favorite is the steel witness and then the poly.
