when you speak of a 45acp ccw gun you cannot have small size and large capacity together. the closest to that is the G30 which isn't truly small. the question comes down to, if you're only going to have 6 rounds on tap before a reload, AND its going to be a small gun (PM45 or similar) what caliber do you want? the thing small 45s have to counter their low capasity is thinness.

Colt Series 70 Government.

Glock 30SF in a Milt Sparks Criterion. I actually carry it with a flat base 9 round magazine rather than the standard 10 round magazine shown in the picture, which makes it more concealable.

I do have a Springfield XDs in .45 ACP, which is about a half pound lighter when loaded with 5 rounds. It is more easily concealable, but still too big for pocket carry.

G21, seems like the obvious answer. Lighter than a metal gun, shootable, reliable, doesn't have that long been handle grip of the XD, and holds 14. With modern tuckable leather, what more could you ask?

I've tried several. I carried the xds for a while, but with only 6 rounds, felt it was too big for what it was. Then i got an ati 'fatboy', which had 12+1, & was still pretty compact, but weighed a ton. I now have a glock 30s, 10+1, & is very compact, rounded, & lightweight. With a glock clip & a trigger cover, it clips IWB pretty easily.

I don't always carry a 45acp, but when i do, i prefer the glock 30s. :D
I like the xd mod 2, & almost went with it instead of the glock.. i might even get one, someday.

After reading all the respnses I am looking at G30, Commander size 1911 (have VBob) and USPc .45.

I've found my Commander to be remarkably concealable and comfortable to carry, even right now wearing shorts and a light polo shirt.

I have one just like post #20, and have carried (and shot) it a good bit through the years. If you are a 1911 guy looking for small and light, that is it.

If you are not a 1911 guy, the Kahr P45 is similarly sized and somewhat lighter, and subsequently, may be easier to carry.

I like both....I shoot a 1911 better.
But not enough to make much of a difference in the real world.

Now if you want to go a bit bigger, a 4 1/4" 1911 in Scandium (S&W) is a pretty neat 1911...but you still have to conceal it.
Not quite as easy as the 3" 1911 or the Kahr P45, but a very good choice if you choose to do it.

I second the Kahr CW-45. Mine has been perfect out of the box as well as reliable. It feels great in the hand, is small, thin, holds 6+1. I do carry it every day and it just disappears under a t-shirt.

When I carry .45 ACP I usually grab a commander-length 1911 (most often my Ruger SR1911 CMD). If not that then my Glock 21.

I've found I prefer shooting 4" + barrels with .45, both for ballistic advantage and (more importantly) I shoot them better.

I have a "pinky-pincher" 30S that I used to carry, but I find it only slightly easier to conceal than my 1911's, and I generally go with them instead. Spare mags are far easier to conceal than the fatty Glock 21 spares.

.45 carry

I carried my Glock 21 for years (on my 2nd one now), and still do sometimes, but after buying it I keep coming back to my Kimber 1911. Wilson Combat spring kit, Hogue thin-profile grips, and plenty of holster wear to prove it. My first and only 1911.

I've carried an officers model 1911, a full size 1911, a G21, and a G30.

If I were going to carry a 45 everyday again I would go with the g30 probably. The officers model 1911 would be a close second.
