45 vs 10mm

I used to shoot a lot of 45, but I've downsized to one 45 acp, and now have 4 10mms. The 10mm is very versatile for loading levels, and you can fit more in a magazine. I find it to be my goldilocks cartridge for handguns.

That being said, if using in home defense, I'm going to download it to 40 S&W levels. I keep muffs by my bed, but that isn't going to save my cat's hearing. And a 200 gr bullet chugging along at 850-900 fps will be fine in my opinion.

But to be honest, as much as I like my 1911s, they are not my preferred gun for a 10mm. The P220 is, or more likely an EAA Witness if I had one. CZ pattern guns work better for me than any other models I've shot.
 
The 10mm is the superior cartridge for the OP's applications. But the 1911 isn't the best choice of platform.

1911s and the .45acp go together like peas and carrots. I don't have either anymore because I don't think either are as practical as other options.
