= $95 = Viridian Serac 6-24x50 (30mm tube) - Natchez Tax Refund Sale

One thing I'm not happy with was Natchez only had shipping with FedEx, I'm assuming because I added some SK 22lr to try in my Bergara.
Probably as when I ordered my Seracs, they showed multiple shipping options.

Are they air gun rated?
I don't know
Quality rifle scope should withstand the negative slam of air guns. I had several scoped break barrel air rifles and would not hesitate to use Bushnell Trophy line scopes (My minimum standard for scope recommendation now). My Trophy 3-9x40 sure can take some bumps and act like nothing hit it.

Thanks for the pics of the reticles @LiveLife. We still don't know if the new one is moa or mil though hey?
I couldn't find much about the reticles (I still don't know what VFD even means). My best guess is MOA.

The rings are pretty crummy, the rear scope cap falls off the first one I opened. Got me side tracked though...

One thing im not happy with is the rings. They get ''stuck'' on the rail after i loosen the nuts. That is a new one to me.
Yeah, same here. Found out when removing the rings for @Spats McGee. A little wiggle after removing the nut loosened the block for removal. Heck, think of it as "safety retention" feature. :)

It's "basic" scope rings but retained the heavy weight tank of Serac on the 10/22 picatinny rail and reinstall on EGW 20 MOA rail while remaining solid without getting loose (I used Loctite and torqued using Tekton 1/4" torque wrench).

rear scope cap falls off the first one I opened.
Caps on old $150 ones were very tight and maybe they over reacted because while the front cap on the new Serac was tight, rear cap was not tight and readily came off.

That's it, time to invoke the "Iron Clad" warranty. 😁 ... I am thinking about using wrap around shim.

I may still contact customer service, not just about the loose rear cap but to ask what warranty service Viridian will continue to provide for the Serac.

I didn't know it came with rings, I personally lap any rings I install with a Wheeler scope mounting kit, I have surprised a couple of people when showing them that not all rings are straight, even some of the nicer ones

like… a piece of tape?
No, I was thinking couple of small rubber bands or larger one looped in half or third.

No, rings are sold separately. Viridian 30mm rings sold on Amazon are $13 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...natchez-tax-refund-sale.929399/#post-12871739

Viridian cantilever AR 30mm mount is $39 (5% THR discount with THRFORUM code) - https://www.opticsplanet.com/viridi...scope-mount.html?_iv_code=99-MT-VRFD-982-0037

But comes with front/rear flip caps.

Live Life, Mine was the same way with the rear flip up but I noticed the problem was the cover latched in to strongly so I took an exact knife and trimmed off the latching ridge about 90% around the circumference, problem solved

Now for my next problem, I found some Leupold 30mm rings and they recommended 28 in/lbs which seems crazy, vortex recommended 18 in/lbs max. Thinking maybe Leupold might make their tubes from galvanized pipe I'm using vortex numbers. My scope now sits on a remington in .243

That's likely for mount nuts, not scope ring bolts.

Manual for Serac 6-24x50 calls for 15-18 inch pound torque spec for scope rings (I used Loctite and torqued with Tekton 1/4" wrench which goes down to 10 inch pound ... If you don't have a torque wrench handy, definitely use Loctite and firm pressure on supplied Allen wrench with fingers will get you close to 15-18 inch pound) - https://viridianoptics.com/pub/media/wysiwyg/pearl_theme/serac_manual.pdf

BTW, manual for Serac 2-10x40/2-16x50 models calls for 12-15 inch pound - https://viridianweapontech.com/pub/media/wysiwyg/pdf/Serac_Owners_Manual.pdf

Yikes! 45 inch pounds!

I guess Leupold wants their scopes to stay put and confident about scope tube strength.

BUT do keep in mind that scope ring torque specs are related to scope tube construction and strength so I would follow Viridian Optics recommendation of 15-18 inch pounds REGARDLESS which brand rings you use. And based on my experience with other Allen head scope ring bolts (I do have some Torx head scope rings now), I would highly recommend using Loctite to prevent bolts from loosening, especially at 15-18 inch pounds of torque.

At 45 inch pounds? Probably won't need Loctite.

OK, got the loose rear cap issue resolved using one rubber band looped in half.

VSrearcap1.jpg

I looped the rubber band in half and rolled it towards the eye piece as installing the rear cap will roll the rubber band forward

And just like that, rear cap is nice and tight without permanent mod to the scope

Question, what height rings are you using for this scope. I plan to order one for my Ruger PRF 22LR. I looked in my catch all drawer and found 1.5" and 2" height rings.

  • Eye relief is not specified but comparable to 3.5" of Strike Eagle (4.0" for Crossfire II)
While doing some digging for what type of reticle VFD-2 was, found this from my original thread. Reason why I couldn't find the eye relief (My guess of 3.5" wasn't too far off) or reticle type is because the page has been deleted - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...g-range-reticle-for-150.900740/#post-12191635

Ordered two.
Not bad with $20 shipping.

Wish the $5.00 shipping for orders over $99.99 would have worked. Said the code (FR240422) at the top of Natchez page was invalid.
