9mm Carbine!

You're correct. They temporarily suspended product to fulfill a overseas contract. They've recently announced that they are starting production again on the CX4.

Darn. I only bought my CZ because they had stopped production on the CX4. Maybe I'll just get a 40 instead when they become available.

What happened ? I've never seen anything like that.

Bolt/carrier/spring/buffer combo with insufficient mass to avoid unlocking prematurely. I bought a rifle buffer and poured the hollow space up to the pin hole with lead. It added several ounces of weight and that slowed down the bolt opening just a bit.

While I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, I just received one of the dedicated 9mm glock lowers and the 16" upper. I find that it is really well balanced and very solid. It has the 15" floating handguard with a full-length rail on top. This allowed me to place the folding iron sights at the extreme ends, giving the carbine a very generous sight radius. Of course, it allows for attaching optics in about any configuration you could want. This was a big plus for me, and something most other pcc don't offer. The fact that I can share mags with my G17 is another bonus. If I ever decide to go the colt magazine route, I can pick up a dedicated colt lower for less than 100 and swap it out with the glock lower.
If this thing shoots well then I'll be a happy camper because so far I'm very satisfied with all other aspects of the carbine.

BTW, I have owned one of the Marlin 45 Camp Carbines and really liked it, even though it wasn't what I'd call dependable. I wish I would have kept it since the prices have nearly tripled since I traded it off. But, calibers aside, between the two I'd take the present AR 9mm over the Marlin any day of the week.

If you can find one or wait for them to come back on the market, the Beretta CX4 Storm is great. Mine runs like a top, is accurate, and has great ergonomics.

But for cool factor I like my TNW Suomi that I Form 1ed into an SBR:

:D

I have to agree. I've had mine for eight or nine years now without any issues, totally reliable, accurate and fun to shoot. Mines a .40 and uses the same mags as my 90-Two.

"Overseas contract"??

For what? A Cx4 carbine?? I'm not sure who would use such a thing for an "overseas contract", do you mean like a defense outfit?

Very traditional here with my Colt 6450 in stock form and a pile of altered Uzi mags I can make a box of fifty 9 mm's disappear very quickly and have a lot of fun doing it. Nice shooting, accurate, no recoil, little noise and on the collector's list so buying one is not much of an option. Colt now has a flat top model that can be had for a little over a grand for those with deep pockets.

What about a 9mm bolt action?
I think that would be nifty.

I've long though a bolt action rifle with wood stock, 16.5" threaded bbl, a good set of iron sights but also inclusion of a detachable top rail, with M1 carbine style magazine release and American style receiver mounted safety that takes Glock 9mm magazines would be really fun!

Yeah, I've thought about it a bit. :D

Hey I did some research on the "contract" Cx4s and I found this:

https://www.classicfirearms.com/beretta-cx4-storm-9mm-carbine-new#product_tabs_reviews

Classic Firearms is selling some of these new in box, but they come with a barrel that is roughly 2" longer than a standard Cx4 and also the manual is apparently in Russian.

So Beretta seems to have been fulfilling a contract for Cx4s with the Russian police?? That's pretty strange if I do say so myself!

I've handled several and shot a CX4 carbine. Nice gun.

I've handled and plan to buy a CZ Scorpion Carbine. IT's a more modular weapon IMO, and feels a little more solid to me. The modularity is nice, but all I plan to put on it really is a Vortex prism sight and maybe a doodad or two.

I owned a Beretta CX4 and it had the absolute worst trigger of any gun I have ever owned. I sold it because of the trigger.

I owned a Kel Tec Sub2K for a while. I didn't like the way it felt to shoot and was not 100% reliable even with FMJ ammo.

I presently own a Colt AR in 9mm and love it. I also like that it shares the same manual of arms as my other ARs.

Dave M,

Boy doesn't that thing make you want to ski around shooting Soviet Invaders of the Heros' lands?

That is nice and you should be proud of it. Did it have a long barrel jacket covering the extra length of barrel or was the extra just sticking out the end of the jacket?

How does it shoot?

-kBob

kBob, my Suomi has the short barrel jacket. Here's what it looked like before I cut the barrel:

Suomi-SA.jpg

The TNW barrel was ~16.5" long. I cut it to about 12.6" with a hacksaw, then crowned and faced it off at 12.4" in my mini lathe. The barrel just fit through the 20mm spindle bore on my lathe. (12.4" is the length of the original barrels.)

Removing 4" of barrel greatly improved the balance. It was very muzzle heavy before, but now the balance is more between your hands.

It is headshot accurate out to 50 yards and except for one of my stick mags, runs 100%. It does not like the one drum that I have, which I don't really care about because at about 12 lbs. it's already heavy enough.

Couldn't tell you, Berretta doesn't specify. Former sales have gone to the Bolivarian National Guard of Venezuela.
India Border Security Forces who purchased over 68000 units.
Russian police services received a large order of Cx4 carbines with a slightly lengthened barrel, and several US law enforcement agencies have placed orders in the past. These are all public record. I've had my CX4 for 8 or 9 years and do know that they have suspended production several times in the past and they haven't always stated why they were doing so.

It's a shame the Ruger PC's didn't sell better as they're a real tank of a gun. Also unfortunate that they put the triggers on them that they did....VERY heavy. I've got a PC9 and a buddy has the 40...and both were pretty horrible to shoot when stock as it took probably 12lbs or more to crunch off a round.

I got mine down to about 5lbs and his a little better at 4.5lbs and ever since the surgery they're very, very nice to shoot. The problem was Ruger put an extra spring in the trigger return that was very similar to a valve spring in a model engine. Surprisingly stiff little bugger that you had to compress nearly to bind to fire the rifle. Safe? Absolutely! But both carbines work just fine with much less return pressure and I think more people would have bought them if their triggers were like ours now. Everyone who gets to shoot it wants to buy it for some reason. It IS a cute little bugger.:)

Rugers are always overbuilt and made like a tank!

Funny how so many people consider that a GOOD thing. For a weapon like a 99mm carbine or really and other gun, all that means is extra weight!!

I'm fond of the Hi Point myself. The magazine capacity sucks, but once you get past that and become a proficient reloader, it becomes a non issue.

Kel Tec S2Ks I've had the displeasure of firing had garbage triggers, toy-flimsy sights, and were almost TOO light as to be difficult to keep on target during rapid fire. Folding is a gimmick.

If you can find one, the Marlin Camp 9 gets my ultimate nod.

Beretta Storm CX4. Overbuilt and requires little maintenance or cleaning to function well. Aside from being more expensive than a typical carbine, it is a great weapon system. The trigger pull ain't that bad :)

Threads like this are dangerous ... its how I ended up with four 9mm carbines! I've shot the Beretta Storm, its OK. I don't have a Marlin Camp 9, but I do have the Camp 45 ... its OK too; the main thing it has going for it is that it can share the 1911 mag but it wouldn't bother me if it found a new home ... if the price was right.

If I could only have semi-auto ... and I could only have one ... it would probably be the Scorpion EVO.

Really?

I heard it's horrible, especially for an $800 carbine.

The trigger on my Beretta CX4 was horrible. You never knew when it was going to trip.

I bought mine about 10 years ago. Not one issue. Trigger is a little stiff but shoots like a dream for me. Seemed to get a little smoother over time.

Not sure what all this fuss is about :)

I have two of the HiPoint 995's, both in the ATI CX4 look alike stocks. Mine both have custom aluminum triggers. One has the barrel free floated and the bolt polished and jeweled. They run flawlessly, accurate with nice trigger pulls. Also have 10, 15, and 20 round mags for them. They also have a life time no questions asked warrentee and the best customer service you could ask for.
