9mm deer load

Deer hunters are some of the worst people to get along with , some of it's alcohol related...both in camp, and on the internet , Use what you want and enjoy the hunt, and the meals .

To be fair, I hunt deer with round ball black powder percussion rifles. The ballistics are, shall we say, less than impressive compared to a modern rifle. Deer aren't that hard to kill, so it works. Then again, compared to your proposed sten gun load my last two deer were taken at around 60 yards with a .530 round ball doing about 1200 FPS at the muzzle. Not a whole lot more energy than your 9MM load, but the ball is a lot heavier (230 grains) and it makes a lot bigger hole (.530 before it flattens and expands). At the very least, sling a bigger hunk of lead.
That's a whole different story. Slow heavy and large diameter is way different than slow, light, and medium diameter.
I like your choice of deer ROUND;)

Only "IF"

A. Range is under 10 yards

and

B. Its a "real" Sten, and you hold the trigger down for at least 4 seconds.

and

C. You have the rare MK2 bayonet mounted, and you are ready to finish the job.

and

D. You don't mind the reputation it will give you.

But if it was a MP5 it would probably be OK.

At 550 rpm he would be holding the trigger for 1/2 a second after the 32 round mag was empty (recommended to load them with 30 rounds only, BTW). Still a bad idea.

Yep... 3.5 seconds for 32 rounds at 550 rounds/minute, I was extrapolating that his "moderate" 9mm loads would make it run slow.

And you better have the mag loader if you want any more than ~ 25 rounds in the mag.

So what I'm hearing is all the people who shot deer with a 357mag revolver loaded with 125gr bullets were subjecting the deer to a slow painful death?
As most of the top loads in my hornady manual put a 125gr bullet out of typical 6 to 8 inch revolver at between 1300 to 1500fps.
So which is it?

I'm not trying to make a ridiculous high pressure loads.

The 9mm hate on this forum is strong. That's a good sign this place isn't ran by 9mm fan boys.
Yep! People hate on 9mm. don’t know why

I like to kill a deer with every rifle I own. I have used my garand ,m1 carbine ,sks. ak47 and ar15. I have used pistol 44mag and 357 mag. This sounds a little strange but I think I understand, I would pick a heavy bullet should not be a problem as long as you keep the range short (very short like archery close). dropped a doe with a 1911 but it was under my tree stand hit the spine so it was drt

Nobody is using a 125gr load on deer, even the Leverevolution load is a 140gr. Did you do any research at all before coming up with this idea? They make a 55gr 30-06 load too, doesn't mean you are using it on bear.

Most people that handgun hunt deer with a 357mag aren't going out to 100 yds either.

Seriously your entire argument is built on terrible research and really bad assumptions, there's literally no fact in it.

Also, I like the 9mm, own several, like 9mm carbines and love the sten. I still think your idea is terrible

I would choose to use any 9mm on deer like I would choose oatmeal over a prime rib dinner. If that's all you got and it's legal in your state, I guess you use it, but if I had choice in the matter, I would use something recognized as a decent deer cartridge instead of that pistol cartridge.

I'm thinking troll here, or liar, because 1300fps is slow for 357mag 125grs out of a handgun, 1500 is about average really.

No way in hell that velocity happened in a rifle, none

I have to dispute the "Deer are not hard to kill" statement. Deer being wild animals have a toughness and resistance to pain and shock. How many have made a good killing shot on a Whitetail and not seen it cover a couple hundred yards? Deer run pretty big in my area and if you want to be sure of a quick clean kill, use enough gun. Browning A Bolt .30'06, one shot, through the heart, ran 60 yards.

.30-06 165 grn at a measly 2800 fps = 2,872 ftlbs energy at 100 yards (vs 321 ftlbs - I think I've had a ricochet hit me at that force). Kinda a big difference which was the original point. But, no, deer are not tough to kill. I find it interesting how more and more ammo companies are offering deer loads that are designed for, uh, deer.

Any pictures of the heart shot? I always like to look.
