Looking for a 9mm for the range. I've handled most of the guns that peaked my interest and have narrowed it down between the Walther PPQ and CZ-75. Which of these 2 guns is the most accurate and reliable?? If there is any other gun in the 400-600 dollar price range that you consider to be better than these guns, please mention it. This will be strictly a range gun. Thanks

The PPQ is a lightweight pistol, but it has a polymer frame. I would go with a CZ 75, its a classic design with an all steel work. You can even get a CZ 75b in stainless matte or high polished (sexiness).

If you can find a Star 30p or 30M, or 31p/m, it was a great pistol that drew heavily from the CZ75 and had some great features!
Benefits - about $300, which means more money in the budget for ammo & holster (standard M9A1 works great),
solid steel construction, 15+1 capacity, wrap-around rubber grip, and puts the bullets right where you aim.
Also uses S&W mags, once slightly modded...& u can add standard dovetail target rear sights.

Detractors - no longer in production, but you can still get parts from various sources.
Only thing you really need is a spare firing pin & springs, and you get that for ANY semi-auto anyway...

For a little more money (closer to $500-$600), 3rd Gen Smith & Wessons...awesome :)
They share the Star's style slide-mounted decocker/safety ;)

Two very good guns, I've owned both and currently have a CZ 75B in .40 that shoots as softly as a 9mm. I always thought the CZ had a crisp trigger, but the PPQ had the shortest reset.

For range guns in 9mm, I'd go for the CZ 75 or a Browning Hi Power if you happen to come across one at a decent price, they tend to skyrocket in price from time to time. I also enjoyed my Beretta M9 a lot, though I couldn't get used to the trigger at first. Very long barrel/sight radius so they're pretty darn accurate.

If I were to buy another range 9mm it'd be a CZ 75, they just feel too good in the hands and are extremely accurate and reliable for the money. I've thought about one in that high polished stainless but they're a little too bling for my tastes and cost about $200 more than a standard 75B.

I think they still make a CZ 75 Single action only model which would be nice.

CZ 75B SA is an excellent choice for a range gun. It's medium to heavy in the weight department so you can shoot it comfortable all session, very accurate, excellent fit to hand. The stock trigger is not great but it's not bad either. Lots of accessories available for it.

I too would opt for a CZ75 as a range gun. Size, weight, balance, and ergonomics are great for a full size 9mm.

With the all steel construction, single action trigger and probably longer sight radius I would have to say the Cz75 for range only without a doubt. Ppq if you want to carry a little bit as well. However my ppq is very accurate and lots of range fun.

I've heard good range reports from the Czech gun. Supposed to be fine accurate. I've seen a good online review on the PPQ by the feller named Nuthinfancy.

When I was looking for my first cf handgun I had my mind set on buying a used 1911. I came home with a used CZ75b, just because it fit my hand so well. Not long after I bought the Kadet conversion kit and the pair go with me to the range every time.

If yours will be strictly a range gun the SAO model is highly recommended.

Standard SA/DA CZ's can be converted also.

I voted PPQ, as it's overall more versatile if you decide at some later point that it needs to be more than just a range gun.

The CZ75, while an outstanding gun, could be a tad heavy and large for concealed carry. As just a range gun, it's really a coin toss bewteen the two (i.e., your personal preference).

Ive never shot a PPQ but I've had plenty with a CZ75.Great shooter and handles very well!

Could you elaborate why you think the 75 is the clear winner?
I guess I should have stated that in my opinion it is the hands down winner, mainly because I am not a huge fan of polymer framed pistols. Tried a few and just not my thing, but to me it makes the CZ the hands down winner. Once again, my opinion only, YMMV.

I have shot the PPQ and I own the 75B. And I like them both but I own the one I like better. I also own a Gen3 Glock 17 that I like better than the PPQ, and which I believe will carry better, since everybody makes a rig for Glocks.

Two thoughts:

1. I have seen lots of CZ pistols in USPSA. I have yet to see a Walther. That may or may not suggest something about which is a better pure shooting gun.

2. There are lots of custom/aftermarket parts for CZs. I don't know if the same is true for the Walther. If you're a tinkerer, this may be relevant to you.

An EAA Witness Match 9mm is my most accurate range gun, because of the SA trigger. I would consider looking at one.

I voted for CZ 75 because of its long service life and owners recommendations. For me the grip was too big, so I went with a similar gun Babe Eagle II as my "range gun". Have no issues, just a good fun gun. However, the best all around and most accurate gun that I have had any experience with is a Glock 17 Gen 4. Not fancy, will not get any range notice, not something to show off to friends, however, it is just works.

I have a SP-01, P-01, and a matte stainless. I prefer the SP-01 as my nightstand gun and it's probably my favorite CZ to take to the range. The extra weight of the full length dust cover make it very easy to shoot and accuracy is excellent.
