9mm Recoil

I'm looking at various 9mms, and I was wondering if anyone has had the chance for fire any of the ones I'll be listing. I was wondering what the comparitive recoil is between:

Ruger P95 series
Walther P99
S&W SW99
Springfield XD
Beretta/Taurus M92

I just got a big refund from my Mortgage company, and I'm looking to purchase a new handgun...the above listed 9's are on my list, as is the Walter P22, the Beretta Neos, and a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt. I just want something fun and accurate and not prohibitively expensive to shoot (I realize that .22 LR is probably the cheapest ammo in the world).

Recoil will be softest with the Beretta, as it's also the heaviest of the guns you mentioned. However, unless you're using +P ammo recoil is almost never a problem in 9mm.

I should point out that I once owned a CZ-75 and found the recoil too stiff for my liking. Oddly enough, I don't mind the recoil of my 1911. Just a clarification.

9 mm recoil ????

I wasn't aware any 9 had recoil. Shoot something WITH recoil and any of these choices will seem mild when you compare.

Seems like you are confusing muzzle flip and recoil. The 9 has a lot of flip but not that much recoil or push. You seem to me like you are more sensitive to flip and less so to push. In that case, go with a heavy gun like the 92FS or try a lighter gun with porting. Glock 17/19C.

Reading between the lines, you might be happier with another 1911.

Of the ones you listed, I have owned and shot a
Beretta 92FS "Centurion Model" over the last few
year's. I don't recall recoil being much of a problem
with the big Beretta 9m/m. It was very reliable and
modestly accurate with certain load's. It could have
just been me; cuz other folk's shooting this weapon
achieved out-standing accuracy from this firearm!

It probably hated me, cuz it heard that I was a SIG
lover?

I find 9mm to be unpleasant to shoot. It has a sharp hit that I don't care for. A friend rented some 9's the other day. A plastic framed Ruger that we both hated, a plastic framed Springer that reminded me of a Glock with the two piece trigger, and Browning High Power. The High Power was ok, but it still had that sharp quick hit. I suppose it was about 15 years ago that another friend got a Beretta 92 and I don't recall ANY recoil on that. Could've been a nail gun for all I remember. I was shooting 38 +P's and .357's just before though.

I much prefer that shove of a .45 and my 10mm with Silvertips. Heck even my old .357 was more fun. Of course I don't care for the 9 so that may color my perceptions.

If a 9mm pistol is something you really want, I'd suggest going to the range and practicing with a rental 9mm (full size) often and just get to used to the way it recoils. That really is the only way because your other alternatives in an auto besides a .45 is .40, .357 SIG, and 10mm. And these three cartridges have an even sharper recoil and torque than 9mm.

And generally, there really isn't that much of a difference in felt recoil between various full size 9mm handguns I've tried: which is for most people soft.

The only two that would have significantly less felt recoil would be a 1911 in 9mm or the new SIG P226ST. But they do cost a lot more and heavier.

This could just be me but when I shoot smaller 9mm pistols the polymer models seem to have less felt recoil (to me) than all-metal - even if the metal guns are slightly heavier.

Anyone else notice this? (Or is it just me)?

Recoil with the Ruger P-95 is quite soft. I think the polymer frame acts like a shock absorber. You can shoot this pistol quite a bit without any fatigue.

9mm recoil isn't an issue (or at least it shouldn't be ). Of the guns you listed, I'd go w/ the Beretta 92fs

I make no excuses for siding with the Ruger P series ... mine is the P95 and a delight to shoot (if ugly! )

I have a Ruger P-95. It is stone cold reliable. Price is right.

Among your 5 choices, I'd say the Beretta/Taurus probably has the least felt recoil.

You might want to look at a CZ75. Price is right and I heard they're very reliable and in my hand it feels better than any semi-auto. It weighs enough so it probably recoils like the Beretta/Taurus. If I was buying a full-size nine right now it would be my choice.

The 9mm CZ-75 has recoil? Seriously for an all steel pistol it's not bad, and it's in a low price catagory with high price performance. as far as military pistols go it's often compared to the Beretta. It feels like a slightly wider body 45 (or Hi Power) with similar layout and ergonimics. Its available in DA/SA, w/ decock and SA only, it can also be carried cocked and locked if you so desire. Fir the price of some of the other 9's on your list you can also get the .22 kadet version to boot and shoot both 9mm, and .22

Berettas have the most gentle recoil. Get the 92FS full or compact and have a blast.
