Help choose my next 9mm

I've boiled my choices down to:

FNP-9
Beretta PX4
H&K USP-9
Sig SP2022
Walther P99
Sig P229
Ruger P95

I am not able to test all of them yet. Fired a rusted, battered P95 at my local range that was so poorly cared for it would not be fair to judge Ruger on this example. Fired a PX4 and loved everything about it, especially the trigger. Today, I am supposed to get a P229 in my hands to try out. Can't find a USP or SP2022 to try. Tried a Sig S2009 and did not like it, inaccurate.

My criterial is da/sa, decocker, rail to hold standard weapon light, compact size of 3.9-4.3", roughly 30 oz., and accurate.

You could buy two P95s for the price of the USP-9/P229....did you enjoy it even though the example you shot was rough?

The P95 felt like it had sand inside, the trigger was gritty. But it was accurate. I reported it in to range guy explaining it needed a good cleaning and lube job.

The Walther P99 is the most ergonomic handgun that I've shot. Very comfortable.

I found the PX4, the Sig 2022, and the Ruger P95 all equally intriguing. Then, I came across the P95 at a good price, and could not pass it up. This was just recently, and I have not had a chance to try it out yet.

Back in the early nineties, I was issued one of its predecessors, the P85, by my employer. It was rough enough to be all-conditions-durable, and quite easy to handle. I don't think I'm going to be disappointed with my current one. I don't carry it simply because I have not proofed it, but I have tried my carry method, and it does disappear pretty easily.

I found the Sig SP2022 to have not the best DA trigger without a little work. Others have said differently, but the example I shot, I did not like the DA trigger until I did a little bit of work on it. Lots of creep/stacking.

You might want to consider the CZ p07 as well. Excellent trigger, especially with the spring package from CGW.

It doesn't have a decocker but the Walther PPQ is the best in hand and by far the best trigger. The only trigger better is a 1911.

From that list, I'd go with the SIG P229 in a heartbeat, but that's me. I don't own a SIG and I'm no SIG fanboy, but I've always wanted to own a P229 in 9mm, and still do. Nothing else on the list really appeals to me. The USP would be the only other gun on the list that I'd ever keep, even if given them all for free.

I would go with the Beretta or the FN. I like how they feel in my hand and how they shoot. Didn't care for the 2022 when I tried it out. The Ruger is ok, it will work but just didn't do it for me. The HK I don't have experience with but am too frugal to drop that kind of cash on it. Haven't tried the Walther or the 229.

Go with the FN. We shot my wife's new FNS-40 yesterday and right now I'm pretty high on FNs.

I have since tried out the P95 I mentioned in post eight. No "gritty" feel to the trigger at all. A little long, with some stacking, in the DA pull, but super-crisp in SA. I was trained with DA/SA revolvers and the P95's predecessor, so the DA-to-SA transition is something I can easily manage. I'm pleased with the gun's operation, feel, and accuracy. I only shot it out to 15 yards so far, though, but it was easy to keep the rounds in "minute-of-closed-fist" groups at that range with informal, offhand fire. I was testing function more so than accuracy with the limited SD-duty ammo I had on hand.

The serial number on my gun dates it, I believe, from 2006.

If you have large hands the P95 is hard to beat. I have been lucky enough to shoot a lot of different pistols. The P95 does fit my hand very well.

Many people like sig sauer products. They do not fit my hand at all. I need an extended magazine with a silicone sleeve. Yet, I still get to much finger on the trigger.

Might want to consider a CZ. Fits the hand quite similar to a Browning HP.
My 85 combat has 16 round capacity, adj. sights, ambi controls and cost $630 out the door. I liked it so much I bought a PCR compact to go with it.

The Walther P99 is outstanding, but accessories are hard to come by and more expensive, to boot.

CZ P-01 Compact, alloy frame version of the venerable 75 series with a rail.
CZ-75D PCR (similar to the above, no rail though)
CZ P-07 polymer framed compact CZ

The new Beretta 92FS Compact L/M9A1 is a beautiful pistol and shoots great, and also has a rail. I have one and love it. It meets all of your criteria, and is a bit different than all the polymer out there.

Tough list to choose from, the value winner is the P95 hands down but I've shot almost all the rest and and I'd own any of them. It should boil down to fit and feel for you. My top three of your list, in order, would be the the HK, Sig P229 and then the PX4.

Do you mean a GP-35 Hi Power? Great choice, but it is not DA/SA and does not have a rail.
