I often carry an SP101 in the waistband, but with a Clipdraw clip, similar to the belt clip available for the Kel-Tec pistols. Works great, and is much more secure than "loose" in the waistband.

Oh, you mean when you're holstering (well, not holstering...). Sorry, I thought you meant all the time, which was making no sense to me.

No way!!! I never even bothered to notice that all those books were written by the same guy (David Chicoine)! BTW, checked out your site, it looks like you guys do some truly awesome work!

hankdatank1362, Thank you! My dad is a purist when it comes to firearms, everything we do is period correct for the gun. All surface prep and level/ type of finishing are done exactly to the "factory standards" of when the firearm was produced. In essence, we refinish the firearm to look and function as it would have left the factory 100 to 125 years ago.

On my old carry piece, which is exactly the same as my "new" carry piece, the only difference being the presence of a hammer, I had a clipdraw installed and it worked great. The only complaint I had about it was that the screws didn't exactly fit everything right and looked craptacular. BTW, here is my current carry piece, along with what I use as my truck gun. I just got a digital camera, and so I am using every available opportunity to post pictures of my stuff!

I have seen enough former waistband carriers in the ER room to know that I will never carry that way. One guy almost took out his jewels: he had a very nasty wound on his inner thigh, exit low down at the back. Another guy also narrowly missed his jewels as he sat down in the car. He put a Ranger SXT through his thigh. The exit wound was nasty. He brought the bullet in the next day after digging it out of his car seat. The last guy had a simple perforation of the thigh, also from an accident while carrying without a holster.
Now you might reckon you are carrying in a much safer manner than these guys. That may be so (although I am pretty sure none of these fellas planned on having such a close call) but having seen the wounds, I now have a specific aversion to carrying a gun without a holster. Please be safe and don't end up like one of those guys.

I am not sure how your size effects things, and I am sure you know your body far better than anyone else on the board, but for my own body, I have experimented with this around the house and have found a really good IWB holster like that made by Milt Sparks is more comfortable than mexican carry, for the simple reason that the steel and pointy edges on the 1911 doesnt rub against my skin. I would feel very nervous using mexican carry on a daily basis, I think I would be concentrating more one where my gun was than on my surroundings...

IMO, the only responsible way to carry IWB without a holster is with use of a belt clip. Simple "mexican carry" is not secure enough, unluss you pants ae shrinkwrapped to you.

Cool, I was looking at the Kel-Tec p11 and was wondering about the clips. I realize there's still the issue of an uncovered trigger, but its nice to know that the clip idea isn't considered completely hairbrained. ;)

I have carried a P3AT with a clip and I also carry 1911s pretty often in a mexican loop, a little loop of paracord hooked around belt or belt loop that you slide the gun into as you stick it in your waistband. I carry 1911s CIII when I do this, sometimes the trade-off is worth it to be able to carry a big gun with not much cover clothing. The loop is way more secure than original recipe mexican. I will Mex around the property, but it is less than ideal.

I'm gonna piggy-back on this thread if I may.

Hey Mas, if you're reading this ...

A fellow LFI alumnus and I are trying to figure out ...

Are you a cat or a dog person?

I suspect the former, my colleague is betting range time on the latter.

I also ask, because my LFI notebook has several references to the word "meow" in it. My attorney, who has reviewed my notes, also wants to understand the significance of "meow" in my text and a cat face picture doodle.

Inquiring minds wanna know.
