I won't claim to have read everything Mas Ayoob has ever written or said. Not even close, I'm sure. But I have read enough of his work to know that the statement your instructor attributed to him runs counter to his typical advice. Very counter.

I think I have-or darn near, and there's no way on God's green earth that Massad Ayoob would have offered that kind of tripe in the guise of "advice". He's one of the best firearm related writers extant and I'm sure he will speak for himself once he gets wind of this heresy.

There ain't a whole lot of people I trust period, let alone trust with my life--despite knowing him only via correspondence and a mutual contact (the man who was my first firearms instructor is one of his alumni), Mas is one of the latter.

I'm not going to claim total knowledge of the man or his writings, but I have no qualms about calling what OP's instructor attributed to him "Doesn't Fit the Profile".

I think the consensus here is that my instructor is a bit of a blowhard as I mentioned. However, that is not all he had to say about Mr. Ayoob. He also related a story about how he was in an NYC police range where he overheard Massad talking to another officer who had just lost a friend in the line of duty.

According to the instructor he was telling this guy how his friend "WOULD HAVE lived" had he done XYZ. One of which was to have an ankle BUG. I scoffed under my breath. Now, I don't pretend to know Mr. Ayoob like amny of you do, you are all much more experianced than I am, but I don't think anyone would be THAT insensative, about the death of an officer, esp on his home turf to HIS FRIEND. Mas is an LEO himself, and doesn't seem to be an insensative jerk, nor does he seem to be stupid. He takes shootings VERY seriously in the videos and articles I've seen.

People like this make me bust out laughing ( can't help myself) when they ask me "what's so funny" my reply is "you are so full of crap". Yes even a deputy. When I hear bs, I call them on it. I have no tact, for people like this.

He went say that Massad had said that it was legal to carry a pistol anywhere in the country so long as it was a Glock, the slide was separated from the frame, and it was unloaded. He went on to say that Massad suggested that if you see trouble, to drop to one knee and assemble your weapon and you'll be legally fine
 I think Mas is a little smarter than that. :D

experience, knowledge and expertise is hard won, the old fashioned way
balderdash is free on any street corner

Mr. Ayoob illustrates description #1
your local (deputy) Sheriff illustrates description #2

but Craig C. is right, grin and bear it, and get your qualifier over and done

PS
Mr. Ayoob ever invites you to lunch, accept, and volunteer to pay the tab
Deputy Dawg invites you to lunch, take a pass (you can only eat just so much....)

I'll add my vote to that.

Mas Ayoob is a man of intelligence, integrity, knowledge and wisdom.

I have no idea what issues or agenda your instructor had with him,
but I'm quite sure that the **** flowed deep from his mouth.

Evidence?

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

I think we're done with this one. On the off chance Mr Ayoob wants to address this nonsense directly I'd be happy to let him post here, but I suspect he's got much better things to do than worry about what some goofball instructor says about him.

ETA: For what it's worth Mr. Ayoob read this thread and his reply was expected. It's a BS story.
