A takedown 22LR bolt rifle

Just as I was posting this, Hammerli added a "Force B1" rifle, which has a removable barrel.

UPDATE: It's not quite what I want, because the handguard is not removable and makes one of the quasi-takedown parts too long. But B1 is an interesting product nonetheless.

Cut the forend back like a Marlin Papoose? Or, cut the forend section and figure out how to bolt it to the barrel?

One thing that has my curiosity up is if a barrel detaches like a pneumatic quick disconnect, how does the barrel lock in solid?

I made a note of all suggestions in the thread and I'm leaning towards Winchester Xpert. It's a made-in-Turkey thing for $338. The action and barrel are removed from the stock with 2 hex key screws.

I looked at the old time guns that break down in the same way at gun shows, and asking prices are $700 .. $1400. Since I'm not looking for an heirloom or a collector item, might as well buy new.

TacSol Owyhee is an overkill.

Tapers generally. Like tooling for machine equipment. Quick change, sold and precise.

The R8 uses one for the bolt and I think can be had in 40+ calibers all swappable with a hex key.

Costs more to make though, more complex.

Theres the TacSol Owyhee. Could also out a short barrel and folding stock on a 457 or other bolt gun.....think savage catalog'd one at some point
Where can I get a folding stock for my 457?? I need that in my life! Of course I kind of like the Boyds pro varmint stock to be honest.

I had a pro v on my 457 really liked it. Not as much as my FFL buddy did though. He has the gun now.
There's a few chassis that offer folding options for the 457 can't remember which ones off hand. I'd have to actually search them again

Here's one that has the TacSol TD barrel and Hogue stock combo. I put a CPC bolt, Kidd Trigger Kit & Guide Rod and Charging Handle. I've had it for quite some time. TacSol makes very nice looking stuff and their machining is excellent. They're not exactly known for their accuracy but I was able to get this one to finally shoot good enough that it could be used as a small varmint or truck/atv gun.

Real, if somewhat absurd question: Have you tried a child's rifle?
My Savage Rascal is the most all-around compact rifle I've ever strapped to a pack, between pencil barrel, skinny single shot action, and child stock. Despite being slightly longer than a folding 10/22.
I doubt it makes a graceful takedown rifle retrofit due to the single-shot sled sandwiched in there, but it's ~30 inches whole.

Another path to consider is the ruger charger with a brace, but the rascal still "feels" more compact.

A great many of the vintage bolt-action Mossbergs, Marlins, and Savages from the teens through the seventies were designed as "takedowns" whereby unscrewing a single large knob or nut below the stock would allow the action to be lifted out.
This suggestion won out in the end. I acquired a Winchester 69 at a gun show in Ft.Worth. Although the big screw is recessed, it is easily accessed without damage by a coin. x78_3fudd_rifles.jpg
P.S. The recessed takedown screw is a feature of 69A, but the bolt at least is clearly of that of 69, and the markings say 69. Perhaps someone replaced the stock with the one of 69A over the years.

FWIW, here's an example of the homemade stock takedown knob I came up with for my TC Encore carbine. Instead of fiddling with removing the two forend Allen bolts and the hinge pin, this knob gets the stock off and on much more quickly and without tools.

I mainly use the regular Allen bolt to fasten the stock because it doesn't stick out the bottom, but the knob's a handy alternative.

It shouldn't be difficult to work up something like this to replace a .22 bolt action's stock screw.
I’ve definitely found a project worthy of the time I’ll be investing, very nice!

I once owned THE perfect rifle sent down from the heavens above, a Savage Cub T. Once my son was fit for a full size rifle I snatched it up proclaiming it would never be sold. True to my word it was not, but I did gift it to a friend for his youngster. This youth, single-shot, thumbhole, 3.5 lb. bit of genius was crafted on a Savage E-receiver so it doesn’t feel pint sized despite its diminutive proportions. If you can find one I highly recommend it.

Although the Marlin 39A is out of the running per the OP (congrats on the Win 69 btw), I wanted to mention that it's not too hard for the breech bolt (along with the extractor and firing pin) to get separated from the action when the gun is broken down.

You lose this somehow... and now you have a HUGE problem.

I hardly ever take mine down, and can count the times I have on both hands.
