Accuracy of Savage rimfires?....

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with the savage mark II series? I have shot a friends tricked out 10/22, but was looking for something a bit different. Can the mark II series, specifically this one ----> http://www.savagearms.com/markiibtvs.htm , stand with other target rifles in the accuarcy dept? I like the looks of it and I really like the Accu-trigger. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I shot a .287" 5 shot group with my 93R17 @ 50 yards. Don't know about the Mark II, but the 17 rimfires are amazing.

I shot 1/2 " @ 50 yards with MiniMags. Match ammo and a target scope might reduce the groups to 1/4".

I love my Savage bolt guns, but the only rimfire Savage I have is a 93 in .17hmr. It's plenty accurate... 1/2" @ 50 yards is about as well as I can do with it, but I have no doubt that the rifle is capable of better.

If you're interested in 'something different' over a 10/22, take a look at Thompson/Center's R55 line. I have one of the older models, a .22 classic, that's a tack driver. Great looking gun, totally reliable, very high quality, what's not to like?

A friend has the cheapest Mark II you can buy. Shoots well at 50 and 75 yards. We have not shot it further, but I would guess that this one would shoot 2.5" at 100 yards. I would assume that the model you are looking at would shoot significantly better. As above my 93R17GV shoots very well. I've shot .5MOA groups with some regularity. You will do well with any Savage in my opinion.

I have a Savage Mark II G Wood Stock Sporter barrel with AccuTrigger & 3 x 9 x 42 Wally World Bushnell scope. CCI Mini-Mags or my stash of PMC Zappers gives me this kind of groups at 50 Yds.

I had a Mark II. Plain Jane with the blued barrel and black stock. I bedded and adjusted the Accu Trigger and mounted a fixed power 4X cheapo scope on it and put a GI sling on it.

I got 1" groups at 50 yards with Federal bulk ammo from Wally World. But I got half of that with CCI MiniMags! I bet I could have gotten better with a higher power scope.

BTW, these were off bench shooting.

I have that same model, with the bull barrel and thumbhole stock, but blued. It came bundled with a Simmons 3-9x40 scope. I've only been to the local indoor 25yd range, but I can put 5 shots in the same hole over and over with it, until I get bored and sloppy

The thumbhole stock is made for target shooting, and the forearm is flat and wide on the bottom and rests easily on a sandbag. There's also an extra 'swivel stud' up front that you can hook a bi-pod to.

I kinda wish I got the regular stock, because I'd like to use it for squirrel hunting now. The smooth wide forearm isn't as easy to hold as the thinner, checkered forearm of the regular stock.

it'll smoke a 10.22. I have a plain jane, in 17 mach 2, and it makes teeneh toineh scottesh size groups at 100 .

I haven't shot a mark II, but I have a 93 in .17hmr, and I have shot a 1" group at 150 yards, only 1" because of that one flier. By far my most accurate firearm.

Savage rimfire

Our gun club bought 20 of the Savage Mark I FVT rifles, the single-shot variant of the Mark II, for use in our marksmanship class. It fits most adults and juniors, with the addition of a strap-on cheekpiece. We have tried a variety of ammo types for accuracy and economy, and find that these rifles are quite accurate at the 50 foot range used in NRA and other shooting programs. The ammo we use is the bulk boxes of Federal or Remington hollowpoints. These will print one-ragged-hole groups at 50 feet from the bench. The more you shoot, the better you shoot! This is serious fun.

I have a bargain basement , in 17mach 2 , that I am actually selling... did a simple trigger job, and bedding tape job to it. It will shoot pinky fingernail size , 5 shot groups at 50 yds, all day, no probs.

My only experience is with a Savage 64... and I can hit pingpong balls consistently at 100yds from a bench.

I have a Savage MarkII GL. I shot 100 rounds through it yesterday at 100 yards. Now mind you I pretty much suck as a rifleman but I am practicing and getting better.

So yesterday if I took my time and did things correctly on the operator side of the rifle I could put holes in the space of a quarter or less. Maybe ten times out of 100 I put rounds through the same hole.

I have not lightened the accu-trigger yet but I think I will do so the next time I plan to shoot it. I think the trigger was aiding in causing problems some of the time when I would have a terrible shot

I truly love the rifle.

i have a mark II without accu trigger or a scope just plain black stock blued barrel at 50 yards i can put 5 shots in the cap of a coke bottle.
