Most accurate/Fullsize 22lr

Yep, a Remington 513T is usually a good shooter. However, it was Rems entry level target rifle. Their premium gun made during the same time period was the Model 37 Rangemaster. It cost 2 to 3 times as much as the 513T, but it also was a better performer. Remington only made 12k of them. They do not pop up often.

My father in law has a model 37 with a 16x unertl on it. Has the original stock and an adjustable target stock. He and my brother in law used to shoot smallbore and the remington was my brother in laws, and my father in law had a winchester 52 with a 20x unertl. I believe the 52 was made in 1934 and the 37 is a 1939 if I remember correctly

The most accurate 22lr I have ever owned is my current one. CZ 452 American in 22lr. Mine is a tack driver with Wolf Match Target. Unfortunately Wolf Match Target can be hard to find and costs more than “plinking” ammo. But it shoots one big ragged hole at 50 yds IF I do my part.

I have guys I shoot with that have target model Savage and Savage/Anschutz rifles. Both are accurate but mine is slightly better.

I’ve not experienced a really high end target grade rifle, but for the money I’ve not seen anything beat the CZ

The Rem and Win target models were excellent . Anschutz target or sporter are fabulous. For the money the CZ sporters are simply brilliant. The most accurate gun I own is a CZ 452.
I have gone through a bunch of rimfires. Like Stumper said, the Anschutz are fantastic if you have deep pockets. The best that I have owned have been CZ's and a Winchester 52B Sporter by Miroku. I have had 4 CZ's. 452's, a 22mag, a 17mm MachII, and (2) 22LR's. All have shot very well. The 52B would shoot 10 shot groups that you could cover with a dime at 50 yards. Loved Federal Gold Medal Match.

My last testing was with a Savage, Marlin and a Mossberg. None met my standard.

My CZ is a beautiful rifle and a fantastic shooter that does a half inch with bulk ammo at 50yds but it's no better than my Savage MKII's or Remington 541T. CZ fans tend to leave out the fact that there is bolt/scope interference. This Leupold 1-4x has a scrape from contact with the bolt handle. You can actually see the shiny spot on the bolt handle in the pic. IMHO, people seem to lose their minds chasing tiny groups.

And then there's that really stupid azzbackwards safety on those CZ's...

IF only they had got THAT right, it would have been a GREAT trainer for my big game rifle!

I have won a few matches with a CZ 452 American. A single hole at 25 yards, dime size at 50 sometimes. A good Annie might be better but it depends on the shooter. No Savages are close. I have a true target rifle a 540XR Remington It is really accurate but is not a sporter.

Hmm, I have no problem with either on my CZ's. But if you have a Savage that will shoot as good as my CZ, I would love to have a match.

Rimfirecentral has a number of monthly matches for those of you who are dying to know. If that piques someone’s interest, talk to a Mod and ask about setting one up with rules and an agreed on target/distance/rifle class/ammo limitation.

I know it's not quite in the same league as the CZs or Anschutz, etc. but I've been very happy with my Marlin XT-22TR. With the accu-trigger & micro-grooved barrel, I've found it to be highly accurate, particularly feeding it Federal Premium Ultra Match (handes most CCI loads ok too)
With the tube mag, I can shoot LR, L and S rounds for fun, but when it's time to get serious, I put in the good ammo and can get dime to quarter groups (depending on my firing stance) at 50yrds, 1-2" out to 100yrds on good weather days. (This wasn't out of the box mind you, lots of practice and developing feel for that gun)
The CZs and higher grade Remingtons, etc. start outclassing me at about 120+ yards where my groups really seem to spread out with each 10yrd increment.
More capable hands than mine could very well do better.
Depending on how far out you're looking to hit, I wouldn't count the Marlin out for it's accuracy, particulay if price is an issue.

well my rifle is a marlin model 70pss the little papoose and I own two of them one scoped the other iron sights but the reason I bought these the last month is I had a guy I met who won 22 matches using the same model of guns as he had two of them as well and so I bought two new ones and wow, these are tight shooting little rifles!! ;)

My CZ455 in a manners stock is as accurate with RWS100 as any rimfire I've ever shot. I've never found another ammo it likes very well though and with many other smaller diameter ammos it produces first round fliers due to leading on tool marks in the throat - a problem pricier rifles probably won't have, but two different 455 barrels have had. I don't compete with it much, but when I do it seems to have a tiny edge on the "typical" Anschutz/Eley Tenex combo.

CZ's have match chambers which is one of the reasons they shoot so well. Ruger target 10/22's have them as well. Match grade chambers should not shoot CCI Stinger or similar 22lr with longer than normal cases. The bullet CAN get shoved into the rifling and become stuck if it is not fired and removed. A rod will then have to be pushed down the barrel to remove it before continuing to shoot. Not all chambers and milled that tight but some are. Also Stinger and similar ammo can degrade the match chambers tighter tolerances. Best accuracy from a match chamber is utilized by matching up the match ammo it likes. Accuracy comes with a price. Personally I use CCI Mini Mag most of the time for plinking, rodents and rabbit hunting with my CZ 452.

Good thread to follow. I was recently asked to join a .22LR bench rest team. I've been looking at CZ455 and heavy barreled Savages. I haven't decided yet, thus this thread is appreciated! Thanks all!

I don't know how competitive your .22LR benchrest team is, but what's winning these days are custom rifles costing several thousand dollars, with 36-40x scopes, tuners, and really fancy rests. If not that competitive, a used Rem 40X with McMillan BR stock might do very well. Not knowing the rules of your particular competition, it's impossible to advise.

There are wonderful opportunities for "adult size" .22's when you look beyond the gun racks of your LGS and Wallyworld. Examples shown here, top down: Rem. 40-X Sporter, Anschutz 54, Steyr Mannlicher, and a rebuilt (sporterized) Remington M-37. The top two are scoped for Silhouette competition, bottom two for squirrels and general plinking. Additional photo are off-sides of the Mannlicher and custom M-37... DSC_0383.JPG DSC_0384.JPG

I love CZ's, but the typical 455 won't outshoot the typical Anschutz 54 Match.....If I had one that did, I sure would hang on to it.
The issue is the stock. 455s are very vulnerable to stock movement because the action to barrel junction is not very stiff. Placed in a highly rigid and completely free floated stock, they do very well.

I am no stranger to CZ's. I have four 452's, and have had others both in 452 and 455 variety. I have shot both sporter and heavy gun matches at more than one place for a number of years. Guess what always wins the sporter matches?...A CZ....Why? Because 9 outta 10 guys are shooting a CZ...lol..Once it comes to factory barrelled heavy guns or guns that can be modified, it all changes. I have seen more than one guy try to modify a CZ with a barrel, trigger, stock float job, bedding job, Harrell tuner, mechanical rest, and so on to try and find a winning combo. I have yet to see one consistent enough to run in the top scores with the Anschutz 54, Remington 40, Winchester 52, and all the custom action guys....Sure, the CZ may shoot a good score every now and then, but not with the consistency of the other guns.
