I am looking for advise on buying a 50 cal muzzle loader that will be used exclusively for deer hunting from a deer stand, shooting no further than 75 yards. I am 65, due to my eyes I cannot use open sights any more, and must use a low power scope (4x). I would like 209 ignition, easy to load, able to hole a 2.5" group at 75 yds, weather resistant finish & stock. Price, as low as possible and still be reliable. - Thanks, Ozark Rick

where ya at Rick? I am near Norwood. I passed on a nice CVA inline with a perfect bore for $80 at the West Plains gun show a month ago. Let me know if I can provide some local help.

CVA Optima or CVA Wolf would easily fit the bill. The triggers on these guns, especially the optimas are sweet! Both of mine break at 2lbs.

My son has a break-open Thompson Center that is easily maintained with the removable breach, uses 209 primers, has scope mounts, stainless, and is a real shooter. Not sure of the model(triumph maybe...do a google).

CVA Wolf - really hard to beat - Not SS but the Optima SS can be found in some stores really cheap $230 and under. But for $170 bucks I paid for my Wolf and it gets it done. Easy to care for (break breech - finger remove plug).
Really a fan of CVA now.
Very Accurate as well.

Im a TC guy but Id say CVA would do nicely for what your looking to do.

I know the new TC's have some recoil dampening in the stocks if you buy into that-

Generally the .45's are very accurate and they fire the lighter .40 caliber bullets flatter and faster than saboted .45 bullets fired from a .50 rifle. Yet the red dot scope does not offer as much accuracy for longer distance shooting, but instead offers faster target aquisition. So some of the additional distance potential of having a .45 rifle could be wasted.
Due to the heavier .45 barrel, the 8 lbs. 13 ozs. weight is sort of heavy for only having a red dot scope on it. And mounting a conventional scope on the rifle would make it even heavier.
The bolt action is not quite as easy to clean and maintain as the break actions are, but not too much more effort.
The .45's have become more popular for both target shooting and hunting.
There's trade off's to be made with every model and caliber. No doubt that model would be fun to shoot even considering some of the limitations mentioned.
