Good Small Pistols

I have had the chance to handle all of the offerings listed. So here are some of my thoughts on each (Definitely Subjective :D )

Beretta Nano - High bore axis, no external slide lock or release, trigger was decent.
Kahr CM9 - Sits nicely in the hand, typical good DAO trigger, readily accessible controls.
Keltec PF9 - owned one for about a year. Needed trimming of mold line to make it not tear up my hands, snappy shooter, left my hands feeling sore for days after 100 rounds of practice, locking lug on the bottom of the barrel snapped at the range after about 600 rounds, keltec fixed it with reasonable turnaround, promptly traded on a S&W model 65 due to mistrust of gun
Ruger LC9s - Good solid gun, if you decide on this one, get the Pro version as it deletes the obnoxious thumb and magazine safeties. makes the gun 100% better
SS P290rs - better ergos than the beretta, but only barely. most examples i handled had terrible triggers.
S&W Shield - better ergos than most of the guns on the list. slightly improved capacity due to the staggered stack design. Shorter reset on the trigger unlike others on the list.

If it were up to me, it would be between the LC9s Pro or the Shield without the thumb safety. Now I will admit to a certain bias due to being a lefty, making most small gun safeties a downright liability for me. Personally, I think that my next gun to fill this niche will likely be a G26 simply due to my competence and comfort with the larger versions of the platform. If you are belt carrying, that or the smith compact M&P would lead the pack for choice for me. ymmv and good shooting to all!

I have tried a Nano, and didn't like it. Didn't like the trigger, the ergonomics, and the way it kicked in my hands. But that's just me - I prefer a heavier gun with a lower pressure round - a slower, heavier bullet. I might have been more confortable with a Nano combined with a subsonic 147 grain load - I've discovered that is where I fit in with a 9mm pistol - but still stuck with a trigger and ergos I don't like. Myself, I'm considering a Sig 290RS.

Your title says "pocketable" The only ones that are truly pocketable as in pants like Docker type shorts and Jeans are the Kahr and PF9

The Sig 290 is easily carried in a back pocket with no worries.
