I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks just reading up on revolvers, snubbies to be exact. I have been carrying my Glock 23 since getting my ccw and although it is a great gun it is just to much of a hassle in the summer so I bought a Kel-Tec P-11 as an alternative but it has been less reliable than I would like for a ccw weapon.

that brings me to the next step a revolver that will go bang every time like my 23 does, after reading 100's of posts here and at TFL I settled on a colt agent from a guy on gunbroker and should get it next week . so please help with a few ?? I have, if I remember right the k frame s&w speed loaders wil work in the D frame colts right? and can I just buy a holster for a J frame and use it for the agent? or should I get one for a K frame? there don't seem to be many choices in holsters for the D frame colts.

thanks for all you knowledge and help you guys have given me and many others I am grateful.

Doug

S&W "J" frame holsters will be too small.
"K" frame holsters MIGHT fit, depending on the model, but they won't fit very well.

I'd try to find a dedicated "D" frame holster.
Most makers offer them, if you ask.

1. They make speed loaders for the Colt Police Positive Special, Cobra, Diamondback and Detective Special. Use them, not one made for an S&W K-frame.

2. A holster may be a problem. The S&W K-frame is larger then the Colt D-frame (which is what you have) and the S&W J-frame is smaller. Holsters made for the following guns will fit your Agent.

Detective Special
Cobra
Agent (of course).

You may have to special order, but they are out there.

They do make Colt D frame speedloaders but S&W K frame speedloaders will still work. The Colt D frame is larger than the J frame, and J frame holsters are too small. S&W K frame holsters will be too big. The proper holster will have to be one sized for the D frame

The hard leather pocket holster I use for my Agent is a DeSantis that will accomodate a J-frame, an SP-101, or a D-frame. So, some holsters will work. For a dedicated D-frame holster, you'll want to deal with a custom builder like Ken Null, Milt Sparks or that Rosen fellow.

Kramer thin horsehide holster (less bulk) . Use the proper D frame spped loader, the K frame versions require a little jiggling.;) A Cobra is really the same as an Agent IMHO!:)

For an excellent pocket holster, try the DeSantis Nemesis. Mine fits S&W J-frames, Colt D-frames, the Ruger SP101, the Taurus and Rossi .38 Special and .357 Magnum snubbies, etc. Very nice design, and fast into action.

For a holster fitted to the gun, unquestionably you should go with one designed for the Colt D-frame, rather than the S&W J-frame (too small) or K-frame (too large).

thanks for the advice, the reason I asked about using a j or k frame holster is when reading many posts from the past guys would mention that their D frame colt would fit perfect in one of the other holsters, but now that I have looked around a little more I see that it should be no problem getting a holster made to fit my new agent.

d frame

Alessi makes a D frame holster for Colts. Mine is open and can be worn strong or cross drax. They are excellent if a little tight at first. I carry mine cross draw with a dump pouch on right, They are of the best qualty and I have one for my glock26 as well.
