OK so today I went to the Mason Mi gun show today, my primary goal was to load up on some .40 Wolf to feed my new XDm. I was about no 40 in line when they opened and after going though the first row of tables I decided to head to the ammo guy....

This fella always has a large supply of wolf's, 9, .223, and usually .40 so on a whim I head for his spot.....

When I get there there is another guy trying to buy some .223, now this looks strange nearly all his ammo is stacked in front of his booth instead of along side....

Other guy asks how much for.... N the ammo guy says he just sold it all!!! about 20+K rounds to one person..... no he did not bring any more with him!!!!

On the way home I call a friend in AZ and M telling him this story and he tells me of a place he gets his ammo from.... they had received in over 1.5 million rounds one day, N someone bought it all up the next!!!!

So I have to believe this ammo shortage is being generated not by short supplies, or non manufacture but by someone or a group that is buying up every round they can lay their hands on....

For you tin hat types could it be a evil government plot to let us have our guns and not any ammo, could it be some end of the world survival nut's planning on WW III, or could it just be panic in the streets and people stocking up huge amounts of ammo for family fun day at the range???? To me this just looks like a repeat of the mid 70's TP scare....

Me I still found a few deals on some white box, wolf's and some Magtech for when I carry the gun.

The 1970's toilet paper scare wasn't a real problem for us country folks.....we just saved up our corn cobs and made do. The ammo panic is a little different, may have to get the ol' spud gun out and start planting taters.

Ammo guy is a cash only operation, N although I was curious I wanted to shop around. but he will be at the Kazoo show in a few weeks N I will ask him there and who knows he just may have the case of .40's I wanted in the first place....

Caught a guy from the local gunshop at Walmart when the truck arrived with the ammo delievery in Titusville(I made a nice new woman friend in photo who knows folks in inventory), it was a 45 minute drive but I got five hundred rounds of Win White Box in 100rd packs at 19.98 a box, five boxes of 100rd pack .38 special, and five boxes of .357 magnum at 21.99. Hauled tail to my truck and locked it up. All my friend's friends thought I was nuts till I explained the shortage.

The guy from the local gunshop out my way had a hand truck and I almost had to fight him for ammo, and we exchanged a few unkind words and the poor store associate just settled it for us, the guy was going to take everything I wanted and mark it up four to eight bucks a box. And whether the shop will admit it or not, they are loading the Winchester in to fifty round boxes of 9mm in different brands to resell it. Essentially ten bucks per pox of fifty and reselling it in a different box for between 15.99 and 18.99.

There was one other customer who just wanted a few boxes of .40 and .22lr, and after that the shelves were almost wiped out of the usual consumer purchases. The shop guy had a frigging clipboard. I'm never buying amo from that shop.

If Sam's Club sold ammo would you still buy from him then?

After all many other businesses go to Walmart, buy stuff and resell it for a few dollars more. Walmart has an outstanding supply distribution system. They can often beat wholesale prices to small dealers of "whatever". Gun shops are in the same bind as everyone else. Record high sales and lack of resupply. They have customers who buy guns and then need ammo for the gun.

He bought a milliom rounds? How could you ever use a million rounds of .223? That would also cost at least a few years pay, unless he was rich.

If Sam's Club sold it at Walmart or cheaper prices I'd buy it, but this is a gun shop blatantly ripping off the customers. Yeah we are a capitalist society largely, but if you are operating your methods to essentially keep the common consumer from being able to purchase ammo at the retail level and then marking it up, that's a problem in my eyes. I know they are putting winchester in their other ammo boxes because when I was last at the shop's range I saw them picking ammo boxes out of the trash and when I was helping a student (I'm an NRA isntructor) load their XD 9mm, and noticed the ammo looked a lot like Winchester Whitebox and not Federal Eagle. I learned what the two cartridges look like from sorting out plenty enough of it for reloading.

If you are a gun shop and can't get supply then up what amount of ammo you are willing to purchase, and lower your ammo prices, and you'll sell more ammo. I refuse to buy outside of Wal-Mart at retail, the prices just are plain unreasonable. Glad I stocked up when I did. Oddly enough, a range a bit farther away from me has prices not too far off from Walmart, and their .357 magnum is on par normally. But you can see the cases of ammo they have piled around(they aren't selling by the case unfortunately).

Plus the rip off shop has been notorious for overcharging, arrogance, and incompetence. Yet they are the only real game for the area they cover.

gun shop

how do you know what he is going to do with the ammo.do you know he is going to up the price.if he is putting win in rem boxes [ex]he could be in legal trouble, but where would he get the boxes, and each case is marked with the co. name.so that would be fraud.since you think that go to the shop and check prices and see if he is switching.then come back and tell us.
:rolleyes::uhoh::eek:

Heck yes, my kid works there and Sam's would get it in by the Pallet load and not just a few boxes....

N the gun shop guy should have been kicked out of the store....
There is room for consumers but not PIGS!

There are very specific laws regarding buying up supplies and reselling them... don't think so, try that with some 2X4's after the next hurricane hits, you will end up in jail.....
