Bill to Repeal Ban on Short Barreled Rifles and Shotguns
Passes Senate, Heads to Governor’s Desk for Consideration!
Please Contact the Governor Today!

On Wednesday, April 14, the State Senate unanimously passed House Bill 2 by a vote of 31-0. HB2 now heads to the desk of Governor Bob Riley (R) for his consideration.

Sponsored by State Representative Jeremy Oden (R-11), HB2 would repeal the section of the Alabama statute that prohibits the possession, sale, receipt, or use of short barreled rifles and shotguns. These firearms are already legal under federal law when properly registered.

A special thank you to State Senator Lowell Barron (D-8) for shepherding the passage of this important piece of legislation during the final days of the legislative session.

Please contact Governor Riley TODAY and respectfully urge him to sign HB2 into law. The Governor can be reached by phone at (334) 242-7100 or click here to send email.

Alabama2010, Not sure if it was your wording or not about the special thanks to Barron, but he will get none from me as it was he that deliberately held this up because of his personal agenda, and looks like he finally caved at the last minute due to the pressure from irate gun owners phoning and emailing him which he would not respond to.
I did email, and call Riley and respectfully requested that he sign it , but Barron will get nothing but a vote against his re-election from me.
Thanks for the update anyway.............................

That sums up Barron quite well...
Barron will get nothing but a vote against his re-election from me.
And that sums up my feelings for him.

No, not yet. I know someone in his office, and it didn't sound like this wasn't a sure thing to be signed... But my gut says he'll sign it. But remember that the Alabama District Attorneys Association is against it.

As stated in the OP, everyone should send a respectful email and phone call to Riley asking him to please sign it into law.

Found this one antoher forum:

"Just got off the phone with Gov. Riley's office. He has a bill review scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) around 2 (according to the switchboard) during which time he'll either sign of veto it."

Who knows?

I *just* got the word that Gov. Riley signed HB2!!!

Now if someone will help me figure out when this think becomes law: "This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law." So is that July 1 or August 1?

So is that July 1 or August 1?

July 1. Just in time for Independence Day! But I guess we can proceed with NFA paperwork in the meantime, so long as we don't have the SBS/SBR in hand before July 1.
