Two quotes from a distant relative of mine several years ago while we were pheasant hunting.

"I put the barrel of my shotgon on my foot so it doesn't get damaged, and I always know where it's pointed." and "I never put my shotgun in the truck loaded."

About two hours before his Dad and I had to carry him into the emergency room.

Hackathorn is da MAN....

More folks SHOULD know who Ken hackathorn is......the most memorable line from a recent class went like this.....

Someone brought up the inevitable 9mmV 45acp comparision.....Ken said that while he favors the .45 acp, that great advances had been made in 9mm defensive ammo....." ...if you put 2 127 Rangers between their nipples, they'll be doing the floppy chiken.";)

And of course, for all of the 1911 fans[ of which I'm a charter member ], according to Ken....." The 1911 is the WORLD'S FINEST COMBAT SIDEARM.....and the king of the feedway stoppage."

Edit for sm: Fred Misseldine was right.......

I'm gonna put this one on a t-shirt for my daughter when she goes on her first date (she is 8 now):

"Somebody who loves me is accurate out to 900 yards"

I heard one recently from the movie Deja vu with Denzel Washington, he plays a ATF agent and he is questioning this guy and the man ask him who he works for and he tells him the ATF and the guy responds with "ATF huh, well you can never have too much Alcohol, Tobacco, or Firearms" I liked that one

From a real trial

here in Maine several years back. A woman was on trial for killing her husband who, she said, abused her. When asked why she shot him 18 times, with a revolver, she said "because I ran out of bulletts or I would would have shot him some more". She was found to be not guilty.

For those who like to refer to us gun owners as "Cowboys." From the James Michner novel "Centennial."

"No cowboy was ever any man's slave." (Nate Person, former slave, turned cowboy.)

From the same book, (and a lot of other sources also.) but I can't remember the characters name. (Edited to add. I remember his name now. Mule Camby.)

"God made some men big, and He made some men small. Col. Colt..he made 'em all equal."

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm.

"Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?"

"No Mam. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle."

"I was aiming for his horse."
Forgotten hero in a forgotten western immediately after he shoots a bad guy off of his horse from an impressive distance, and a bystander exclaims about what an amazing shot it was.

2 classics

Clint Eastwood (Harry Callahan): I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?

Clint Eastwood (Harry Callahan): Well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard. That's my policy.
John Vernon (The Mayor): Intent? How did you establish that?
Clint Eastwood (Harry Callahan): : When a man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross!
:D

CNYCacher, That was Britt (James Colburn) in "The Magnificent Seven", that said what you paraphrased. Hopefully not a "Forgotten hero in a forgotten western" to many posters, a classic western.

Can't remember exactly where I heard it, but:

Summary of elephant hunting with the 8 bore double rifle. An englishman fires his rifle, the elephant falls down, the englishman falls down, the one that gets back up is the winner.:D

I think it got debunked, but, its still good. The interview with the USMC sniper:
Interviewer: "So, what do you feel when you shoot an insurgent?"

Sniper shrugs and answers:"Recoil"

maybe not the best, but i'm sure everyone here loved that chow-hall scene in "blackhawk down" where the delta operative "hoot" held up an index finger and said "THIS is my safety".

Frank Hamer, who led the group that took down Bonnie and Clyde, on that shooting: "I hate to bust a cap on a woman, especially when she's sitting down."

Johnny Ringo: "You don't want the only evidence of your life's work to be bullet holes in men."

The Magnificent Seven.

That was Horst Bucholz speaking to James Coburn, who had just plugged a fleeing Mexican bandit.

The all-time great movie for quotes was "The Professionals"

Burt Lancaster to Lee Marvin: "My word to Grant ain't worth a plugged nickel."
Marvin to Lancaster: "You gave your word to me."

Ralph Belamy to Marvin: "You ba$****!"'
Marvin replies: "Yes sir. In my case, an accident of birth, but you sir, you're a self-made man."

My Great Grandfather, a retired prohibition officer from the mining area of Montana, when asked why there was a shotgun by every door, window and in the outhouse,

"cuz my eyesight ain't what it used to be."
