Hello folks!

I've posted this at other forums, and would like to get you folk's opinion:

I would like to ask you all if you are allowed to carry at work. If so, what type of work/company is it, other than LEO and security?

I ask because I'm going to be on my company's employee safety team, and would like to begin working on them to change the "no weapons" policy to at least a "no loaded weapons" policy. If any of you have been successful in lobbying your company/workplace to make this change, please let me know. I want to know if this is doable or if I'm just spittin' in the wind.

Thanx!

well...

Technically "NO". I work for a title office, and there's supposed to be a way to get "permission" through HR and my boss to carry at work. My boss isn't a big fan of firearms, and there was one incident where another employee was arrested at work while carrying illegally, so my chances are nil. I won't tell you whether or not I carry, but chew on this: It's easier to replace a job than your life. Concealed means concealed, right? ;) wink, wink.

Of course if you have a family to support and a really good paying job, then you might want to consider what would happen to your family if you suddenly lost that income.

At any rate, stay safe.

My workplace allows it, but a few weeks ago they were thinking about a "no weapons" policy. An article about keeping weapons out of the workplace was sent around to a few of us with a note requesting comments. They got quite an earful from me and I've never heard the subject brought up again.

I still remember how I ended the note I attached, "Isn't it ironic that a company which subsists mainly on defense contracts would attempt to ban weapons?"

I wish

My answer is a big old NO! :( I work for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, so since I work on a Naval Base, I don't get to carry.

I carry at work every day and I work at a car dealership getting rid of all the wholesale cars. I asked my boss if it was alright to carry and he said that he didn't care. So other people in the company carry also.
I know on of the F&I guys was cleaning his gun at his desk when a customer came in to talk financing and saw the gun all apart and was a little frecked out. He just put the gun in his desk and went on helping the customer like nothing happened.

When I drove oxygen and med supplies, I carried every day, and the boss had no problem with it. Dopers see "Medical Supply" on a truck, and MIGHT wonder what's actually in there, like needles, drugs, etc. Every other job I was/am required to carry, which I like....

I do tech support for an internet/phone company. They do not allow firearms in the building... nobody mentioned anything about knives though so those come in with me. :D

Not sure.

My company's policy is a bit vague:

"WEAPONS PROHIBITED

Possessing or using firearms (including rifles, handguns, target or starting pistols, pellet or BB guns), knives, explosive materials, toxic agents or other dangerous devices or substances that could be used as a weapon is prohibited on xxx premises or while on xxx business. Specifically, no firearms of any kind are allowed at any xxx worksite, including buildings, grounds, parking lots, or within employee vehicles while on xxx property, even if the employee has a valid permit to carry or conceal the firearm."
Maybe I should ask for a clarification?

I work at a University.

Possession or use of firearms, explosives, dangerous chemicals or other dangerous weapons or instrumentalities on the University campus, except for authorized University purposes, unless prior written approval has been obtained from the Vice President for Student Affairs, or any other person designated by the President of the University (see WAC 478-124-020 (2)(e)) (legal defense sprays are not covered by this section);

I suppose I could ask for permission.... :banghead:

AOL bought the company I work for a while back. Can you guess what our policy is?

That said, you should have seen the looks on the security people's faces when I was arranging to bring a crate of wepaons in for a shoot one of the networks was doing... It was priceless. :)

so you'd unchamber your weapon when you get to work, and reload when you leave? sorry, but to me that just increases the chances of a ND.
heck my brother tried asking me to unchamber when i spend time around him or his kids. i said No, and havent seen much of him since. he calls all the time though. never have i seen a guy who likes to spend as much time on the phone as that bastid.

I think you'd be better off pushing to have the policy changed to something like 'no illegal weapons' or 'people who are prohibited by law from having a weapon cannot have one on company property.' Something that looks all warm 'n' fuzzy to the HR types but would still be kosher for someone who has a carry permit.

Independent oil & gas exploration/production company in downtown Houston, TX. We have a pretty stiff no weapons policy in the office, on wellsites, and facilities. We can have them in our private vehicles in parking lots, however.

I work at a car dealership...

No policy indicating we cant carry. My GM and owner is aware and more than friendly about it really. My GM is a collector of sorts, so its all good.

I contract for a delivery company and the attitude is a "don't ask don't tell" type.

They cannot tell me not to carry but they are in no way liable for anything I might do.

I have to, otherwise my pants and belts would be too big and I might expose my self. Got to avoid sexual harrasment suits at all costs

My company doesn't have a policy. It's like the law, if it isn't prohibited, it's allowed. One guy here knows that I carry, but nobody else. I would be honest with them if they asked, but I see no reason to bring it up. Even if it did come up, I don't think there would be a real problem with it.

Not at my company.

We can't carry, and we had to sign a form stating that we understood this. I would consult with a lawyer to see what the legal ramifications are for your company. Being afraid of being sued is usually why they have a no carry policy.

When I first got my permit, I worked for a company with a policy against ccw. I honored that rule while working for that company.

The next time I was looking for a job, I sorted through the possibilities and only made application at the spots where I could legally carry with my permit.

I feel that strongly about it.

The best to you,
