guy calls on a SKS i had in the paper. shows up after giving directions 5 times. act sorta squirrely i ask all the pertnet questions AGE, FL RESEDENT.all was good till he said he wanted a pistol but couldn't have one, i was thinking maybe because he was not 21 but then he said he couldn't have a shotgun either cause he was on probation. well that killed it gave him his money back and took the gun.
THEN WANTS ME TO SELL IT TO A BUDDY IN THE TRUCK, AGAIN NO I CANT DO THAT EITHER.
Then the guy gets all brassy, says he has a receipt for the gun and do we need to get the law involved.
WTH.
so I said guess we do and I called 911. Guy heads to his truck and leaves. GOOD ITS OVER (WRONG).

guy calls me says he has a receipt for the gun and is coming back to get it. told him come on and tell it to the cop standing in my door, (hang's up) he calls back this time i dont answer and he leaves a voice mail.
im thinking i better call the law now just because, deputy shows up runs the guy finds out he is a 3 TIME felon, takes my statement wants my cell phone with the voice mail from the guy, wants my security tape, wants the SK for prints and takes the receipt to show intent to buy and is a felon. turns out the punk is some kind of bad boy known for drive bye's.and othere things.
cop said he should get him gone for 25years.

ps : if you have a shotgun id keep it close for a while.

Guess IM standing guard now for a few nights, if you don't hear much from me in the days to come something must have went bad my way.

So here I set watching the outside cameras and stroking my 590 M/P.

JUST WHEN I THOUGHT ID TURN IN EARLY

This is the reason I will never do a FTF unless it is with someone I know.

I hope they get the low-life so you can rest easy.

And this is why you NEVER meet at your home to sell anything.

Wal Mart parking lots are good, Starbucks, Home Depot......very public areas.

Good thing is he's probably all hot air. If he was a REAL bad boy he wouldn't have left.

you have a point there, anything i sell at home (alot are car parts) it is all done outside or in the garage.
sold some things in parking lots before , always felt like i was doing something wrong, think for here on out parking lot it will be.

good thing he was all talik last night cause there would have been a hell of a mess in the garage today to clean up and not all of it would be from me.

If anything feels wrong, it probably is. Do it in a parking lot, and turn it down if you feel anything's not quite right.

I hope they catch him since they obviously know who it is. That's a rather scary situation to be in. I have two children in the house with my wife and I. I feel it my duty to protect them while they are in my house and on my property.

I try not to draw attention to myself or give anyone a reason for revenge. I don't think I would sleep well the first few nights and would want to know when they put this guy behind bars. Good luck and take care take care.
Shovel

I wouldnt be so sure about that... He said, "deputy shows up runs the guy finds out he is a 3 TIME felon... turns out the punk is some kind of bad boy known for drive bye's."

Yeah but we know he doesn't have a gun :)

And he knows the OP does.
And he knows the OP called the cops, which means he's been identified and he knows it.

(sorry, just trying to put some upside in this too, it's a serious matter for sure)

I do my FTFs at the local range.

I buy and sell FTF with people who have a valid CHL--problem solved.

Parked the trucks in frt of the windows last night, at least the house is brick that will help some.
DA better do it coming out of the neighborhood as i live on a dead end st. if they try something on the way in they will be sprayed back on the way out

yeah, I wouldn't be so sure he's all hot air either.

When I bought my M&P9c it was from a guy in a parking lot. I show up a couple minutes early and park. Before he gets there a cop parks 10ft from me in the corner of the parking lot. I wasn't doing anything wrong, but I sure felt a little uneasy. Thankfully, the cop left a minute after the guy pulled up so I wasn't handling a gun in front of a cop. Just seemed like it wasn't thing thing to do.

Crazy thing is, we were thinking of leaving here for a bit and I just moved almost all my guns/ammo to my daughters house and then a
THOUGHT HIT ME. :what:
What if the SHTF and IM light on fire power. Then this crap comes up.

JUST MADE THE CALL to tell daughter what case and bags to bring back.

THINKING ITS TIME THE AR WENT ON STAND BY ALONG WITH THE 590, and the XD is always with me.

sorta like hunting season,
SIT AND WAIT:(

Paranoia or good policy?

Shady folks are every where, some are good at it others are not. I have a friend and we do business all the time. In the past we have bought and sold numberous guns. When either one of us sells FTF one will cover the other. For example last time he sold a gun a Bersa 9mm he got a bunch of "I needs a gat" calls bun no firm sales pitch. Then finaly some gangster like dude wants to see and buy the gun, he set up the place and time, gives me a call. We meet about an hour before hand he calls the guy and says meet me at X grocery store parking lot in an hour. I pack my pistol and a rifle in the front of my truck and go park. HE packs his CCW of choice and sets up in a open area where I can plainly see the action but with in 50 yards. Car pulls up they both get out and stay in plain view I observe for any ill intentions sale gets completed they leave I leave a few minutes later. If anything were to go wrong there is an extra gun and more importantly a witness. Not every sale needs this kind of "security" but some certianly warent it.

BTW if the OP had sold the gun, and there were no red flags. And said felon got caught say the next day or even a week down the road with the OP's gun would the op be in trouble for selling a gun to a felon?

If you are selling enough guns to have a procedure for extra security, you might want to consider either getting a FFL or not talking about it on the internet.

the way i understand the gun sell laws FTF is i cant sell to a known felon, a known mental patent, a minor, OR SOMEONE OUT OF MY STATE

THE LAST 2 CAN BE ON YOU AS YOU SHOULD CHECK ID

Geez I'm sorry to hear about that. Hopefully it's bark and not bite from him. Hopefully he is found and caged up again.

You have a good descript of the vehicle and his buddy right?

Can LE patrol your neighborhood for a while?

well..........if one were to buy say 3 guns a year and sell one or two a year do you really need an ffl? I know a few local folks that buy and sell on a monthly basis some times weekly. If there is a law on how many guns you can sell FTF in VA with out a FFL I am certianly un aware of it. In my refrence we as in I and my friend over the past 15 years have sold maybe 30 guns between the two of us. I dont see what the problem is.

LAW WANTS TO DUST THE SKS
take my cell phone that has the voice mail on it were the guy called, take the surveillance tape for my cameras, already took the bill of sale the guy sign to show intent to buy and is a felon. sergeant told officer to mark it as evidence and walk it over the somewhere last night to get a judge to look at it and get a warrant.

crazy thing is the punk is the one that asked for the BOS
(would have got one anyway just to cover my azz)

i dont sell many guns
(only if i see something bigger/better i want and need funds to help get it)
i have been known to buy way more then i have sold.
ie: had 4 for sell and wound up with 5 after all was said and done:)

take my cell phone that has the voice mail on it were the guy called,

Tell them no on that one. They can get a warrant and have the wireless company pull it from their voicemail system. Your phone doesn't contain the voice mail.

i would think they could access that from a land line somehow

Wow sorry to hear about the bad luck. I always sell mine to people I know online and meet in public areas. NEVER NEVER NEVER meet someone for a firearms transaction at your house or place of business unless you actually know them first. Make sure you stay alert for not just him, but he might have some of his "boys" try to jump you elsewhere too. Lucky for you most thugs are lazy.

You better think real hard about that. Your right to shoot ends when your life or the life of those you are defending is no longer in danger. You start poppin' rounds off at a car headin' out of your area and FL or not there's a good chance you'll be keepin' bad boy company in the FL State Hotel. As a citizen you're allowed to defend yourself and others when faced with lethal force. That's it. You aren't allowed (unfortunately IMO) to take preemptive action. You aren't allowed to use lethal force once the threat has left or is leaving the area.

2nd off you need to be real careful about what you say on the internet. If bad boy does come back and you do plug him a smart DA could make a case for you ambushing the thug based on the comments full of bravado you've made right here on THR. Again your right to shoot is limited and you've just informed the world you'll shoot the guy even if he's running away. Not a stretch to imagine and easy to put into a jury's mind that you were laying in wait.

3rd - I'm 56 years old - been around the world and met all types of folk ranging from saintly to pure evil, talkers to doers. It's been my experience that those that talk about it don't do it and those that do it don't usually talk about it. Sometimes silence really is golden.

4th - If you really feel you and yours are facing a life threatening scenario spend $50 for a consult and go talk to a lawyer familiar with the law of self defense and find out exactly what you can and cannot do to protect yourself. Put him on retainer. Do what he says.

Interesting story.... Nowadays, if the gun is listed in the PAPER, as yours was, that reaches dang near everyone, then I do a background check by just getting on the free public record website for the state (court docket database) - just do a name search. Now, if it's listed in the gun club newsletter or on a website such as thehighroad, and the guy seems like a normal gunny, then no I don't do that, but I do have them sign a paper that says "I am not a felon", yada yada.

I once offered to sell a Colt Anaconda at a very reasonable price, many emails wanted to avoid doing the FFL, even guys from out of state wanted to come to my place and do a face to face.

At this I balked, said no to trying to chisel down my price, and doing a face to face. Some of them were from Illinois, NO!

My advice, don't do face to face. Meeting some one at a parking lot is not good either, they may throw down on you and take your gun...what are you going to do with that?

The only smart thing to do is use FFL in a legal transfer.

Jim
