In TX, flipping someone off is grounds for suspension of your carry permit if it "tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace"...
I live in PA. This is a TRUE story.......

I was driving my 68 Mustang. Very sweet old classic. Some degenerate woman, in a total POS car, runs a stop sign and almost broadsides me.

I flipped her off, pulled away.

She started following me. She ducks off real quick after I speed up a bit. Next thing I know, I got 2 cops (One township cop, 1 boro cop) They pull me over IN my friends driveway.

I got a ticket, for obscene gestures..

"Screw this, Imma go to court for this one," I think to myself.....

I do. First off, the lady SHOWS UP! Damn, didn't expect that. Then the COP shows up. Didn't expect that either. The woman, proceed to give the judge the finfger every time she said "the finger" in court. Probably 25 times.

I explained MY side.

I walked out $350 dollars poorer. I lost, and had to pay a fine, for giving this degenerate, welfare looking (insert epiphet here) bit** the finger.

$350 for the finger.......... I still can't believe it, and it's been 4 years or more....................

This is a disappointing thread. I expect more self-restraint from CCW holders. To speak of having a knife in one hand and a bike lock in the other...because of a litter-bug. Are you serious?! What we have here, unless I miss read it, is a person who engaged in reactive misconduct (pulling a knife and bike lock), said same which would have justified the litter-bug drawing a CCW. Did I miss something here?

???

A guy gets OUT of a taxi, and confronts you with bad intentions, and I should what? not be prepared?

Yep, you missed something here.

I first pointed at the trash. I didn't say much. He rolled down the window and started spraying spit and what not.. I then made a comment, after I was commented.

What I don't want is for Taiwan to become Singapore, everybody is an adult (so I thought) picking up your own trash without big brother watching over your back.. This isn't Joe Idiot on the sidewalk, this is some thug who has lost face because he was caught doing something he KNOW he shouldn't and now has to defend his face..

"Death over trash" sounds fairly stupid, I agree; but the problem is, where "is" the line? Like one of the posters commented, what if someone cops a feel of my wife? Someone pinches her rear, do you really want to risk your life over a pinch?

The internal conflict is, do you let certain things slide, or not? Reporting the taxi, for what? The taxi driver isn't the one that littered.

When the guy comes up to you and chest bumps you and says what are you going to do about it.. When he initiates CONTACT, you don't think I should prepare myself for a conflict?

Now as for Pax's comments, probably I could have added a little bit more 007 smoothness into it and a bit more tact.. but that's not the internal conflict.

The short short short version is, "This guy needs a can of whoop--- opened up on him, but am I the one to do it?"

BTW, while some comments have disappointed me, I have not been on THR for a while (that whole marriage prep thing took up my entire life!!) but I'm happy to still have a place to discuss self-defense.

I feel that because I am able to defend myself quite well physically, I am almost at a disadvantage. Any conflicts will result in maming or death of someone.. And so conflict is the last thing I want. But at the same time, the problem seems that these thugs think, "Ha! Look, no resistance!!" and so they become bolder and bolder. No, I don't think littering is the "gateway drug" to raping and theft, but total disregard for the law, and the desire to get into the face of someone when he KNOWINGLY did something wrong, is a problem.

11 Pigs can consume an entire human body in a day right?? Just kidding!!

There's nothing wrong with maiming or killing people who pose a real threat to you or your wife. However, short of such threats, it isn't practical to get into fights or confrontations with idiots. You would do better by moving to a location where the local culture is more compatible with your views, not by trying to re-educate those who'd rather not learn.

Pinching? Not life-threatening, so Janie should reluctantly forgo killing the person...unless close physical proximity and physical interaction do make her fear for her safety. In which case, it would be reasonable for her to incapacitate the perpetrator or allow you to do the same for her. That is why picking on smaller, weaker people is more dangerous for the perp. The victim's threshold of fear for life and limb is lower than for a guy like you.

I think you were right to be prepared and able to fight, but I also think you'd do better by avoiding engagements with people who already proved themselves to be antisocial by their actions. Save your ammo for the politicians ;)

I would hate to think that I could not defend myself in a non life threatening situation without "maiming or killing" someone. Seems to me that some training on intermediate steps might be in order. Someone using physical force to defend themselves is not necessarily a "death or great bodily harm" situation, and lethal force could get one life in prison. It would certainly be nice to know that you can step to that level if necessary though.

Something my father told me as a kid has served me well.
At least it has after I didn't listen to him the first time and almost paid a heavy price for not paying attention.

"Never get in a fight with someone you are not willing to kill"

As a teen I thought it was just macho posturing until after I got into a simple fist fight that spiraled out of controll and I seriously maimed and almost killed someone for saying mean things about my girlfriend

He deserved an ass kicking he didn't deserve to have his upper left teeth knocked out, jaw and cheek bone broken, and a life time of blurred vision.

Unfortunately by the time I figured out that he was tougher than I thought he was it was to late to back down

Or, just fight in a less confrontational way. What if you had done this: Call the cops, report the license and cab number, and let them deal with it. Will anything come of it? Probably not. But then again, playing Captain Planet didn't make the jerk pick up after himself either.
Agreed.

Littering is illegal, and it isn't a life-threatening situation so dial the non-emergency number for the po-po (add that to your cell phone ... the police are understandably unhappy when people call 9-1-1 to report a litterbug) and report the stooge. Probably nothing will be done, especially if he's in a cab, but get someone tossing junk out of his own vehicle and get a license number, and the person might find him/herself spending the next few weekends picking up trash along the side of the highway.

Something young people, young men particularly, need to be taught young, is that serious fistfights are very potentially deadly force. People die. People are injured for life. This happens all too frequently.

That's why if I get into an altercation with someone who physically is imposing enough to make me fear a serious beating...

a)My concience is going to be perfectly clear that I didn't provoke it or escalate it, and in fact did everything I could to de-escalate it.

b)With no other reasonable option, I'll use "deadly force" to end it as quickly as I have to.
