American or Foreign Firearms

I generally buy whatever I want (guns and everything else), wherever it might come from, but if I can find something of equivalent (or better) quality and functionality that is largely made in the USA, then that would be and has sometimes been a good tiebreaker, even if it costs a little more. Generally I've not found price to be a major issue, though, perhaps surprisingly.

My home theater speakers, for example, are some of the best I've heard in their price range, and they're designed and assembled in the USA from largely European components (American audio companies that could supply such components were not willing to work with the designer, and probably would have outsourced to China anyway). For about 15% less money I could have bought something almost--but not quite--as good that was also designed by Americans but manufactured in China. It wasn't a difficult choice.

As for guns, most of the ones that I like and own or expect to own someday are made in the USA (mostly) anyway, so it's easy for me, too. When I decided to buy a polymer semiautomatic pistol for defensive purposes, I happened to like the M&P best, but if I had liked the Glock better or found it to be demonstrably superior, then I would have gone with that, as personal and family safety come before nationalism and my drop-in-the-bucket fistful of dollars. Regarding revolvers, I like S&W and Ruger, so that's another easy "made in the USA" choice for me. If I wanted a 1911, then there are still plenty of good domestic options, too. And finally there are a number of German-made guns that I'm interested in, as well, so I'll probably end up with one or more of them eventually, and I'm OK with that--they make some really fine weapons over there, obviously, and ultimately I'll buy whatever I want or need regardless of where it's made (with the USA favored in any tie between equivalent products).

Buying a gun made in the USA is nice but not a priority - my next gun will be a Croatian made XD(m)-45 and it'll go with the 2 XD45's I already have. I also have 1911's made in China and Brazil as well as the US, and a Makarov made in Russia. I just don't want low quality.

It's a "quality" standpoint for me as well. Meaning, if a company wants my business they will design and build a quality product. Origin has little sway on my impulse to buy (firearms at least). I do not however, prefer to patronize a firearms company, FOREIGN or DOMESTIC that so easily caves to political pressure from the ANTI-GUN crowd.....case in point.......INTERNAL LOCKS!!!! I despise them so... and won't own one based on that fact.

Buy the gun you want. The American free market will determine who the winners are. That's as patriotic as it gets!

Most of my firearms are American made....from about 40 to 110 years ago. I have never actually considered where a gun is made. Its just not important to me. I look for quality, no matter where it comes from.

I don't make compromises on features to buy domestic, but I do give preferential treatment. I'll admit that I have a Savage (Canada) and a Benelli (Italy), but I consider thes countries (especially Canada) to be on more friendly terms with the US, unlike China etc.

American-made is not the sole determinant of what I buy but I do give it quite a lot of weight. My two revolvers are S&W and my 1911 is Colt. I have an Italian Beretta 92FS but but it has a strong US connection since our military have used it since the mid 80's. I did buy a Walther P99C and now wish I'd bought the similar S&W product instead (could have been patriotic without sacrificing much if anything). When I was looking for cheap fun rifles, I had no hesitation in buying a WASR 10 and a Mosin Nagant.

Well I wouldn't buy a gun made in Somalia or Afghanistan, but generally I don't care if they are from Europe, America, Russia, ect. Then again there is no Luxembourgish firearms company so the situation is different for me than it is for an American for example.

I don't care who makes the gun as long as it is a good one.
I personally avoid Chinese made guns, not because they are bad quality, most aren't, I just try to avoid avoid supporting communism.

Country of origin in a global economy is less important to me than quality of finished product. Buying quality only costs once, buying junk costs over and over......(read my sig line)

most of mine are American made, but not all....
F'rinstance...have an RG (GASP!) .38Spl revolver, a Yugo 59/66 SKS, and a Romanian M-44 Mosin-Hagant and a Pietta (Italian?) 'Navy Colt' blackpowder revolver. Not sure where my Lyman .50 flintlock "Trade Rifle" was made.

All are American made ---cept:

Glocks
And one Chinese shotgun--Pardner pump

Try to buy American as much as possible--before they send all the manufacturing jobs overseas---still have never bought an American car---too much money for quality thats not there.

Quality wins every time with me.

Some may think that means only expensive guns with high dollar names but I am just as happy with the quality of my Bersa .380 as I am with my "series 1" Kimber. I have Japanese shotguns I value as much as any American made scattergun and all of my bolt guns have Mauser designed actions no matter who made them or where.

My truck is a Ford but my bike is a Honda. I have knives from literally all over the world that all get sharpened on the same Japanese water stone.

I will say, I can't think of one thing I own or use that is French in origin. I don't know if that is because I just can't stand the French or if it is just because they don't make anything worth buying...

I don't own any foreign made guns. This is purely by chance rather than any conscious effort on my part.

Wait.. I lied.. I have a Saiga and a Mosin. Well, my Mosin is on a Remington reciever but with Russian everything else when it was rearsenaled into a 91/30.

All but one of my guns was made here in America! After reading this post I went and looked the only non American gun I have is a FNP-9! :what: I am really proud of that! Even the FN says made in Virginia on it though.

I buy American whenever possible simply because our guns are reasonably priced, effective, functional, and some are a part of our heritage as Americans.

I prefer American products. And where comparable, I will buy American.

Having said that, I'm not rich and will buy a product made overseas if the quality, features, and price are better for me.

I have a few Colts and S&Ws, also a couple of Walthers (not US) and a CZ.

Got a feeling I'm not by myself. I don't believe in bailouts, companies need to adapt and be competetive. Too many rest on an air of entitlement.

We make some pretty good firearms in this country; but I still find myself buying a lot of non American guns. The world is just so big and their are so many interesting things to buy.

If you talk about modern firearms right now this country has a major hard on for the AR series. If your not an AR fan well that limits you mostly to European and Asian stuff.

Same goes with cars I prefer German and Italian over Detroit.

I really like supporting my country and buying American products. Thankfully we have a good amount of high quality gun manufacturers here. Even so, I don't make it a point to buy the American made gun over something else unless the domestic gun offers more of what I want. The same applies to the opposite of that situation.

For example, I wouldn't buy gun "X" just because it's made in the US if gun "Y" offers more of what I'm looking for but is made in another country.

One exception I have is when it comes time to buy my first 1911 style pistol. That bad boy will have to be made domestically by a US owned company. :)
