Wasn't that one of the signs of being a gun nut. If you see a good deal on ammo, but dont have a gun in that caliber, you buy it anyway so you can buy the gun in that caliber.
You won't believe it either, as the ammo is 22 LR. I know, I know, I plan to remedy this soon with the purchase of my first 22 LR firearm. Eek Gads, go easy on me please.
Put me down for owning ammo for guns I dont own. Two examples, I purchased .32 before I owned my p32, I own 30-06 and I still dont own a 30-06. If I see a real good deal for ammo on a gun I plan to own in the future, I will buy some.
Not really 'lots' of ammo but I have a cartridge or two for guns I don't have.
Kind of collecting. Nothing organized but I might get a round from someone that has a gun that I don't have or find one here and there.
if you own and collect guns long enough, you will accumulate lots of ammo for which you dont have the gun anymore...lets see...7mmmag, 303 british, 7.62x39, 7.62x25, 44 mag, 41 mag, 40 s&w, 25acp. probably more it i thought hard enough... someday i may get something to shoot them in.........its a lifelong quest
I've got a box of .458 WinMag partially shot up laying around somewhere - no rifle for it. A friend of mine brought his cousins to a shoot & I wanted to shoot it a few times so ....
Also a couple hundred rounds of .45 Super. Supposedly I can shoot it out of my USP as is but I would rather put in a beefier spring before doing so.
Heh . I owned 2 loaded M16 mags for 10 years and never owned an AR15. About five years ago I had to sell off all of my guns for a divorce .A few months back I was digging around and came across a box of 35 9MM rounds and 15 12 guage shells.I have a 9 now , but I still don't have shotty again.
Well, I have 500 rounds of 7.62x54R, but I got that in anticipation of getting a Mosin-Nagant. Still waiting for the C&R, but hopefully that will come soon.
Saw a good deal on some 7.62x51. Bought ten rounds thinking "What the heck--I'm just getting rid of some loose change." Turns out it's the Indian (Asia) surplus ammo.
I want my money back. When I get something in .308 I'm sure as heck not going to use that ammo...

This is exactly the way I ended up with the only Glock I own.
Long story short. I bought a couple hundred rounds of .45 ACP; somehow when I go home I realized that 1 box was not .45ACP but .357SIG. I was fascinated by the bottleneck cartridge and went back to the store a week later.
I said either I need to trade for .45ACP or sell me a firearm that fires this cartridge.(.357SIG)
End of day I'm leaving with a Glock in .357SIG. I still LIKE that gun, but I still hate Glocks too. Lesson learned I don't know.
Real lesson, it's a LOT of fun to buy a firearm, just because the ammo is so intriguing.
Now I have a SIG and a 1911 in .357ISG, Love that round. Anyways.
I've got some .308 that apparently I shouldn't fire in my CETME. Whoops. If I ever get the damned thing WORKING I'll get some surplus ammo.
I've got some .410 shells that are too short to work in my Saiga also. They kinda work, just not reliably. I either gotta buy a new magazine for 2.5" shells or maybe a single-shot .410 for the 75 or so rounds I got laying around.
Such is life.
I own a bunch of 12 gauge shotgun shells that are well, shot, that I don't want to shoot out of my rifled barrel. I wasn an IDIOT when I bought them and thought "1 shot" meant it was a slug. Whoooooooops! Yep, I was a told. I thought it meant that it only had 1 "pellet" and therefore it was a slug. Shoulda known better I guess.
