For almost eight months my gun store was unable to get 460 S&W ammo from their supplier (Hornady 200 grain FTX). Everywhere I looked on-line was also out of stock.

Two days ago my gunshop says they will be getting 6 boxes in their next order. At the same time I get an e-mail alert from MidwayUSA that they have 460 S&W ammo in stock. I picked up two boxes at the shop and ordered 4 boxes from Midway. My order shipped the same day.

I just checked on-line and MidwayUSA says they are out of stock again and the date they expect to get more is December 14, 2011!

Is anyone else having difficulties obtaining other ammo? I can't even find the brass for 460 S&W anywhere these days.

Some of the stuff is definitely hard to get ahold of...

Have you looked into possibly loading your own? A basic set up can be quite affordable and get you shooting much quicker and much more cheaply.

260 rem brass has been very tough to get ahold of for a bit. Other "normal" kinds have stabilized around here and is not a problem to get. Then again, that is just about the most obscure cartridge I shoot really regularly.

Seems like a very good reason to stock up a little bit when you can (as you did) so that the supply hills and valleys are leveled out a bit if you shoot a particular caliber. The hardest to get caliber I buy routinely are 41 magnum factory loads. But I keep a fair supply on hand where not being able to find any for a couple months has little effect on my shooting other than I might choose not to shoot a caliber where I have a finite amount on hand that I can't replace.
