Most of have seen rediculous gun "stuff" in movies, but I gotta tell ya that the one thing that drives me insane is the artificial gunshot noise. Real guns make a nice boom and most movies have a rather pathetic bang. I will give some movies credit for having real sounding bouncing spent cases though.

Granted that unless you have a nice home theater rig your audio system cannot completely reproduce a real gunshot accurately, but Hollyweird has the best sound equipment in the world. They can do much better.

Anyway, has anyone here ever heard "real" gunshots in any movie? Please me what it is so I can watch and compare.

thanks

Some of the old Westerns with black-powder rifles do, and some have blank cartridges being fired. It's mostly a case of microphones not being able to record a sound that a speaker can properly broadcast, so they pretty much have to overdub a "slower" sound.
What really annoys me is that high-pitched whistley noise they use for silenced weapons. A suppressed weapon does NOT sound like that!

"Open Range" and the latest "Miami Vice" have great gunfights with very realistic sound

I second Open Range, one of the most realistic gunfights ever filmed. Although Charlie Waite managed to get 9 shots from his SAA. Another superb film about gunfights with realism is another Costner film, Wyatt Earp. When Ed Masterson was shot, smoke came up from his smoldering clothes... first time I'd ever seen that, and very realistic. The Fugitive had realistic sounds too...

Did ya ever notice that a sniper rifle, in a movie, sounds distincly different than the other rifles shooting?

realistic, or good

well lets see...
Anyone seen Nemesis a favorite of mine very unrealistic in every way
but good sound except the bmg all still dummed down but I likedit.
Open Range does have good sound but physics are all wrong,
I mean don't get me wrong I love rope tricks but a shotgun doesn't throw something that weighs 170+ pounds......
Not even double ought i tried it on my 70 pound tv barely bounced it
and it tipped back it was of course heavily damaged.
Can't think of any really good ones.
Ohh this one is a game Gta3 sanadreas worst sound ever... game is not much better but almost good for a laugh
oh yeah and while we're on sounds what about the infamous Glock safety Hollywood guys are always flicking off? I hear it but don't recall an external safety.
