Not sure if this has been asked before, but...

I see a lot of LEO-only restricted stuff for sale on the auction sites for less than what a new model without the no-no's on it goes for. I guess it's the smaller, limited market that keeps the prices low. Anyway, assuming the ban sunsets, won't LEO-only designations be moot, at least for post ban rifles and mags? Even if they're marked as such, you should still be able to purchase them, right?

Now, the crux of my query is this: as a non-LEO, could I purchase an LEO-only rifle, mag, etc., pay for it, and let it come to my ffl, where it can sit until the AWB sets and I make the transaction with my dealer?

If so, I think some of the pre-sunset LEO-only prices are way cheaper than what some of the jacked up post ban prices will be.

Probably not.

I'm not up on tax law, but if I understand things right, part of the price difference between LEO prices and general public price is that the gp pays additional excise tax on firearms and ammo.

The LEO ONLY restricted magazines and firearms will be legal to own after the ban sunsets. The only reason for the markings is to show they were manufactured after the 1994 ban became effective.

Until the ban goes away, the wholesalers are requiring a letterhead for restricted weapons, per the Federal rules, at least from what I have seen. After the Federal ban sets, it will be back to the mish mash of state bans and it will be up to the wholesalers how they want to control the transfer of restricted weapons.
BTW, the lower prices for restricted weapons reflect the actual cost and profit margin the manufacturers/ wholesalers get on any new weapons, not the market-driven prices for pre bans as it is currently.

I am hoping to make a big buy on some LE mags. From what I understand from the wholesaler and the FFL as long as the FFL keeps the mags in his possesion I shoul be ok. Once we get to Sept. 14th I will be in the clear to pick them up.

You CAN, however, finally have that uber-evil 10/22 you've been lusting after. Complete with flash suppressor and folding stock!!!

Get thee to Texas!

You can buy any damned thing you want to here, and we even have a long coastline that fronts on warm water (the GULF Stream flows around the edges of the GULF of Mexico - just by coincidence :D). Also, many cities (and even large towns) in TX have one gunshow per month - I'm sure that you could find nice housing somewhere near to the Gulf coast where you could enjoy sailing 3 weekends per month and attend a gunshow on the 4th weekend....and that housing wouldn't cost anywhere near as much as the Kali equivalent. Even more fun: it you wanted to sail your boat here, you'd have to go through the Panama Canal (unless you wanted to follow an icebreaker through the Arctic Ocean :neener: ).

Oh, and Texas is a shall-issue state.

I'll also bet that our property taxes are lower, and I know for certain that the state income tax is lower - because we ain't got one!

Take it from a refugee of one of the Socialist states (the spit PRNJ spit ), Texas is one awesome place to live.
