OK. We've done favorite caliber, ideal rifle, one rifle for everything etc... etc... Now, of the rifles you currently own, if you could only keep one, which would it be? No rimfires or shotguns, just centerfire rifles.

I'll go first. The one I would keep is my beloved Ruger M77 in .25-06. Cartridge can do anything I want to do in the forseeable future. Good trigger and heavy enough for fun with paper. Little stuff like squirrels, chipmunks, ground hogs up to coyotes can be dealt with using the 75 Gr VMax. Deer, pronghorn could be taken with the 117 Gr SST. And if you absolutely had to go elk hunting with it, you could probably use the 115 Gr X Bullet. Might be a tad light for Alaskan bears however.

My Lee-Enfield #5. Its got great sights, shoots a great caliber, its short, and of course, its got style.

My favorite rifle I have ever shot......bar none.

Kimber 84M Varmint in .22-250. Remarkably accurate. Absolutley beautiful. Light. Best out of the box trigger I've encountered.
Other less tangible reasons.

I "use" a rifle for deer hunting, National Match Course and silhouette shooting. IMHO, the one best rifle to cover these bases is the M1A. It is an effective, if heavy, deer rifle, it is great for HP target shooting and can be scoped for silhouette. The M1A is also a fine fighting rifle, should the need arise.

An AR would be good for the NMC and for fighting but it is light for deer hunting and won't knock down the steel silhouettes.

A good bolt gun in .30-06 or .308 etc. would cover the hunting, target shooting (with clip slots) and silhouette but would not be the best choice in a fighter.

I would hate to be limited to one rifle for everything, but if that were to happen, I would pick an M1A.

YMMV

Enfield carbine in 7.62x39 topped off with a Leupold Scout scope.
I bought it for the purpose of a general purpose rifle.

Rasheed 7.62X39 Rifle, A 10 shot, well made semi-auto military rifle with 30/30 power. Enough said:)

My .375 H&H ,I can't decide if the Model 700SS with 1.5-6 Leupold or my high grade custom Mauser would be the keeper . It would depend on where-700 in Alaska or other wet and cold place, high grade Mauser in dry areas. No doubt about it being .375H&H .:D

Please, no more "only one rifle" posts! I can't stand the pressure!

having said that, I guess it'd have to be my Winchester 670 .30-06 bolt action. That gun will do all a reasonable man can ask a rifle to do. But I'd sure miss my other rifles.

My Finn M-39 Mosin-Nagant.
I have other, more practical rifles, but I just love that rifle.
Fires a powerful round, fairly comfortable recoil, accurate as hell and fits my shoulder as well as any rifle ever has.
Very high quality, especially for a military rifle.
Any rifle that makes me look like a good shot is a keeper.:D

Hmm, tough one. Probably my Garand although it would be very tough to part with my M/39.

However, I'll soon have two FALs built and it's likely I'd choose one of them over the M1.

I nearly added to the ''.303 count'' .... cos love my MkIV but ..... since having my .243 Savage 99C (wonderful raffle prize!) ..... I think I'd hang on to that. With my homeloads using a 105 grn bullet, it shoots great and has enough punch to do pretty much all I'd need.

If I could back up 30 years or so, I'd stay with Ol' Pet, my Weatherby '06. As it is, the lighter weight of my 700 Ti in 7mm08 makes it a winner. It'll do anything I need a rifle to do...

Me, too. Mark.

Well, if it were an SHTF scenario, it would be the AK. If it were anything else, the Rem700.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I'd have to take a Mosin, seeing as how I have much more ammo for the Ruskie as any other. Now...which one??? I guess I'd take the 38. Why??? You tell me, you only let me bring one!!!
