I just purchased an AR lower. I asked here and over at AR15.com about what is the best etc. My understanding now is that there are 4 major makers of forged lowers and different companies have them machined different places. I was also told "pick a logo I like and get it, they are are all "good" except a couple of them out there.

I narrowed it down to Stag Arms and Anvil Arms because of price and reccommendations. I could get the Anvil Arms for $100 (normally $150, I think).

Anyway I talked to Jon at Anvil Arms and he was quite helpfull so I decided to get one from him. I bought the Lower and a parts kit. It was shipped quickly and I did not see it on my credit card until it was delivered.

I could not be more pleased. The machine work and the finish are top notch. Really very good. The parts kit is almost as nice. Nothing to complain about.

Jon and the nice lady I spoke with at Anvil Arms were great to do buisness with.

Actual pics are a bit bigger. Photoshop sized them down a bit I guess.

Thanks to those who helped out. AC

If you didn't know already, Jon will laser engrave pretty much any kind of artwork you want on the bare side of your rifle for free. If you've already bought somebody else's lower, there's a small fee, and if you want engraving in more than one place, there's another fee. If you already have your lower, ask them how much it would cost for shipping, and they can take it in, engrave it, and ship it right back to you.

They have a gallery thread in the industry section on arfcom that has a bunch of photos of the engraving, as well as some faq's. I plan on getting one of their lowers next time they swing through my part of town. I'm just trying to decide what I want put on it...

I thought about getting something on it, but decided to get it "plain". AC

I can not thank you enough for the great review and posting the fantastic pictures!

Somebody mentioned the laser engraving on "other" receivers. Yes we do, no problem. The details are on our website but basically this is it:
$15 for an in stock or properly formatted high definition customer supplied image.
$10 for a second location on the same receiver.
Insured return shipping for a stripped lower or one with kit the LPK is $10.

By the way, if it is an Anvil Arms lower receiver, that you did not engrave when you got it, even if you did not buy it new, or if you got it from a dealer or whatever, we will engrave it free anytime!

Like I said, all the details are on my site so I don't want to turn this into an Anvil Advertisement.

Thanks again for the fantastic review/pictures!

Jon,

Your prices look good, and once I have more money, I might buy some stuff. I would like to see more pictures though.

Jon, lowers do look pretty good, but help me understand why you would go to all the work to meet "mil-spec" on the uppers and not have a forward assist. (at least, the pic on your website does not show a FA)

Thanks for the question!!

Do you mean the picture found on this page? STRIPPED Flat Top Upper

The answer to that question is the key word "STRIPPED". You will notice that not only is the forward assist mechanism missing, so is the ejection port door, and all the parts that go with the door. The proper (Mil-Spec) dimensions are all there to allow the user to assemble a complete upper receiver, but this one is in the raw, no parts added stage. We also sell upper receivers with all the necessary parts.

Sort of like ordering a "Hamburger" and asking where the cheese is?? :)

Hmmmmm makes me think I need another lower before the gun grabbing liberals take office. Maybe build a nice varmint gun.....

Great work on the lower! That's sharp.

How durable is the laser engraving process? Will the images wear out, fade, scratch, etc. over time? Will they hold up alright to harsh cleaners?

tag for answer to question posted above.

Also are your barrels chrome lined? Specifically the lightweight?

Jon, my bad on the FA question... i looked at that upper several times and for some bizarre reason, it looked like it was missing the place to put the FA, not just the button itself. I see it now. I think the shadow confused me.

good looking stuff, and i'm considering another build right now... It's high on my list

Oh man, you really have the wheels turning in my head now. I was thinking about the GSG-5 for a plinker, then I was thinking of SBR my RRA AR-15 and the M1S .22 upper, but then I'd wind up buying another lower anyway with a 16" upper hanging out in the safe. Now I'm actually thinking of a seperate lower to go with a Model 1 sales .22LR upper at 7.5" Just a complete seperate firearm. I'm assuming you can do a lower registered as a pistol too?

Hmmmmmmm......Sounds like a group buy coming on with The High Road engraved on them

I spend too much time thinking

Walkalong.....

for only $20 more you could have Jon ship you the lower with the parts kit installed.

Is it really that easy to do yourself?

I'm conspiring my first AR build....and this looks very, very tempting!!

Looks like the ball is in your court :D What can you do for us? How many do you need to sell for a group build?

Maybe a Moderator should take over now and start a sticky thread maybe in the classified section?

isn't there already a THR logo AR lower group buy going on?

Well, if you go read the thread, his best price will be $110 to $120, April at the earliest and it is all still speculation.
Anvil Arms is already priced lower, engraved for free, and maybe lower cost with a group order. Speculation is great, but Anvil looks like he can start producing NOW.

Question for Anvil:
Can you do a Registered SBR that can be shipped to my Class III FFL? Or do I just need to get a standard lower and have him go thru the paperwork for SBR status then transferred to me?

Looks like the ball is in your court What can you do for us? How many do you need to sell for a group build?

We have done several special sets for groups such as yours. It is always a pleasure to do so. I will need the artwork that you want engraved. The requirements for submitting a custom art piece can be found at: www.AnvilArms.com/LASER

Some groups wish to control who gets receivers with their logo and have me ship only to one single FFL and they take care of transferring to the individuals. Some do not care who buys one. That is a decision each group must make. Some groups have a single person collect all the names and info and then forward it as one package to us, (We really like that!). Some groups just have the individual members contact us directly.

Prices are $100 each with the standard group engraving. If you want it registered and engraved as a pistol add $5.00. If your group decides to allow personalization by adding your name or screen name or whatever, add $5.00 for those that wish to have that done. Shipping is a bit tricky. We MUCH prefer to ship the entire lot to a single FFL who can then distribute as needed. All shipping is always insured to the full amount of the shipment. Shipping individual receivers is $9.50. When shipping multiple the price can drop to as low as $3.00 each, it all depends on how many are going in the lot.

I’ll need a board administrator to authorize the project and provide approval on the artwork. We can proceed almost immediately with the project once the proper authorities have made the necessary decisions and given the needed approvals.

By: Grant48: Can you do college logos, or are trademark licensing a problem?

I'd love an AR lower with this engraved (in black and white, obviously):

For something like that, if you provide it, I’ll engrave it. See the link above for who to work with on the needed art work.

Assuming you live in a SBR permissible state, sure we can send an SBR to your local class III FFL for registration and transfer to you. We do it frequently! However, according to federal regulations, a receiver alone NAY NOT be transferred, it MUST be a complete weapon. Actually, this is one of the things we specialize in!

To move this along (because I'm just about to buy my first stripped lower) I have forwarded this on to the powers that be (Dr.Rob, Bartholomew Roberts ) by using that neat little triangle there in the corner.

to see if they or Oleg would be interested in giving the GO-A-HEAD to the THR engraved lower.

I might suggest anyone else interested in this to also report the thread with your POSATIVE replies to a custom engraved group buy.

Thank you Jon.
